Diversification!

It's a lovely word, isn't it? Diversification. Though truth be told if my interests were anymore diverse... well i'd hardly be able to keep any one sentence on the same subject. Not that I do a hell of a job of that at the moment.

Anyways, I figured that since i'm not actually using this LJ as a strict Gambit anything, it would be all right for me to actually change things up a bit. Except the having things be in French part. I quite like it. That plus the fact that I've kind of fallen into total fanboy love with a recent Alice in Wonderland mini-series. It made me love my favourite character again after Tim Burton scarred me for life.

It's a really well done riff off the original story and probably what Burton's film should have been. I was a little wary for the first 20 minutes, then it just picked up and stayed amazing. Hatter wasn't mad, but still had the right amount of unusual mannerisms; Matt Frewer was his usual crazy self; there's no fucking way on earth I will ever believe that THAT Alice is supposed to be 20; i liked the explanation of the oysters and i loved the whole concept of the tea house. A little disappointed that Tim Curry's appearance was so short, but thems the breaks.

I've never been a shipper of any Wonderland characters whatsoever, but I have to say that the Alice/Hatter angle was played well and not too strong. I was rooting for him to get the girl and overwhelmingly happy when he did.

That being said the slasher in me poked it's head up a couple of times. Once when Hatter said, "I know a thing or two about liking people, and in time, after much chocolate and cream cake, 'like' turns into 'what was his name again?' " My brain skipped the part where he was transposing it to Alice and just ran with the fact that he was talking from his own experience. Which just indicates that he's had fun with other guys in his past. Since I tend to assume that as given to most cool characters anyway, I was leaving it at that. Until you get to his utter shock and jealousy when Alice reveals that her boyfriend Jack is really Jack Heart. You could take that as he's already completely fallen for her and is realising the competition is out of his league, or you can follow my brain and think there might have been something between the two. Personally i prefer the vague he's been with other non-specific guys route than the Hatter/Jack thing.

I can't help being a slasher. It's my natural default. Hell, I just watched 5 minutes of Deadwood and have already decided that Seth and Sol is a viable pairing just with how well they work together. Still not sure if I like the show yet.

well done alice, arrest me i am a slasher, hatter
