.....I haz one. Or I can, at least.

I'm currently qualified to teach at universities in Korea, which involves no rent, excellent money, good vacation time. After a year of doing that, I could go to a university in Chile, Oman, Abu Dhabi, Taiwan, Istanbul, for comparable pay, usually with free flights, no rent, a month or more of vacation. What kind of qualification is necessary for Korean university positions? I always thought that I might like teaching at a Japanese university, but I didn't think I'd be able to without a degree in ESL.

A masters degree and a year's teaching experience. Helpful if the degree is in an English-related field, but not mandatory. You should think about it!

Are you still in Philly, by the way? Sorry I haven't seen you yet!

I am, but I'm leaving on Sunday for the Peace Boat voyage (www.peaceboat.org if you haven't seen it yet).

And wow, I have that! Do you need to speak Korean at all? 'Cause I don't. XD

Nope, no need to speak Korean. You pick up what you need as you go, and it's helpful to learn the alphabet, but that takes like a half hour of studying. Did you know Japanese before you went there?

How long is the Peace Boat thing? I'll check the site out!

It runs from July until October but I'm going early to visit my Japanese friends. It's awesome! I'd say you should do it but it's a volunteer thing, not a job, so I dunno how you feel about that. I'm just, uh, basically procrastinating that whole real job thing.

I didn't know Japanese before I went to Japan. Korean should be a bit easier due to the lack of kanji. Where are you finding the job postings? (Of course my girlfriend would kill me, but there's no harm in looking right?)

Ha, so am I...I'm working retail, for chrissake. Basically just paying the bills until I go back to Korea. Wow. I nearly just typed "back home." Interesting... but that does sound cool!

DavesESLcafe.com has lots and lots of job postings, in Korea and elsewhere. It's a great place to start. I've also seen stuff on craigslist just by searching "ESL"!
