I like it. Yeah, I like it. To what extent, well, I haven't quite figured that one out yet. On some songs it sounds like he's either trying too hard to achieve something without every reaching it and finally giving up or choosing to leave it as is, OR that he's just simply half-assing it (as strange as that may be to say). On others, it seems like he got it just right. I also have some problems with his vocal delivery at some parts. It probably sounds like I find more negatives than positives with it, but that's not necessarily true. There's just some nagging areas that don't sit well with me at this point.
It's one of the main reasons why I'm partially torn with this album. Some of it is very enjoyable while other parts are just strangely lacking. By no means is it one of his better albums, but on the whole, I found it to be a decent listening experience (even if it's not as "complete" as I personally think it should be).
I can't say too many truly definitive things about it at this point, good or bad. These are more or less just early observations. You'd probably be best off listening to it yourself. Normally I'd have no problem recommending a NIN album, but this one is a little too quirky to do so with confidence. It'll certainly be interesting to see how people end up responding to this one.
