Sugar-free sports drink?

Sep 07, 2006 00:36

Is there anything like a sugar-free version of Gatorade or Powerade or something like that? My doctor told me to drink Gatorade when I had an upset stomach, but it has something like 45 grams of sugar per bottle. I checked out TaB energy drink but it's loaded with caffeine and I don't want that right before I go to bed.

What about doing the crystal light drinks? Rather... the powder then dump it in a water bottle?

Does Crystal Light actually have any nutrients in it? I thought it was just a more expensive version of Koolaid.

lol tonight at the store it was a cheaper version of kool-aid *grin*
no... it doesn't. but remember gatorade (etc) don't really have much in them, not vitamins anyway. Uhm.... also as you stated oodles of sugar/carbs.

There's a huge variety of vitamin waters.... some good, some not so good. I've found a couple brands (who's name of course escape me right now) that contain vitamins...and SOME carbs but nothing even close to the sports drinks versions

I spoke to a pharmacist when I was looking for otc medication, and he said that I should drink something like Gatorade for electrolytes and salt. I told him that I didn't want the sugar, and I was wondering if there was an alternative.

Most pharmacies will have an electrolyte replacement drink specifically for taking during/after an upset tum. I take Gastrolyte - which is sugar-free. I used to get the runs on most days due to gluten intolerance (pre-diagnosis), but I was still eating somewhat of a normal diet. Only when I couldn't eat did I take Gastrolyte, and at the same time, I kept my BGL steady by taking some flat regular lemonade like Sprite/Mountain Dew.

My question is, however, are you eating and drinking normally? If so, then plain water is the best thing. If you are not eating, and you are dehydrating because even water is going through you, then having an energy-containing drink like Gatorade or similar is going to give your body the energy it needs to begin healing.

Hope that helps... feel better soon. ^_^

Yes, but it comes as a powdered mix that you mix with water. We have two kinds of it here at home that we got since my wife (type 2) and I (type 1) both participated variously in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer where they require you drink gatorade. One thing we got was called 'Electro Mix' and the other was 'Ultima Replenisher'. They're both just unsweetened electrolyte mixtures. We got them at a local natural grocer, Wild Oats.

There is in the UK. Its a version of Lucozade called Hydroactive. Tastes great and only 2g carbs per 100ml. It has all the electrolytes that normal lucozade does but none of the sugar. Its great for exercise.

Not much help for you in Canada though I guess!
