Hi, I'm new - I don't have diabetes, but my aunt has Type 2 and has been diagnosed for about 10 years now.
Recently (not even 2 weeks ago), she started taking Levemir insulin injections. Before, she never did that great of a job of controlling her blood sugar and would constantly cheat - her levels would be in the 300's or so. She fought with her doctor about taking insulin but finally gave in when she had her appointment on the 17th.
She's been trying to control her diet and exercise, but it's hard. Yesterday, she said she had very little to eat, and this morning, her glucose level was 190-something. She doesn't understand why it could be so high - other than the argument she had with my mom, which is known to spike her levels.
She just took the injection now, and she took her sugar right after it - 264!! How could this be??? I don't know. She and I are baffled, frustrated, and worried.
Additional information: She got her most recent blood tests in the mail - her lipids are still high, but what alarmed me most is that she now has "slowly climbing diabetic kidney damage", which is freaking me out :(
I guess my questions are: how come her blood sugar is so high if she's really been trying to get it down? and if there is any other advice you could give me about diet, exercise, or anything about kidney damage. I'm 21, she's 58, I'm scared as hell and don't want anything to happen to her :(
Thank you.
