Daniel is, as he has been for the past six months, in the Orchid.

Working. Today, he's monitoring seismic activity. (And keeping one eye on the portal at all times, of course.)

Even though there is an undeniable connection between seismology and physics, Dan is almost completely disinterested in the assignment. He knows (read: is assuming) that there are much better things on this island to monitor, and staring at a bunch of blips and numbers on a computer screen is really not his cup of tea. Staring at the portal isn't that exciting, either - no one's shown up since Tilly Masterton, and she arrived a few weeks after he did.

Five and a half months with no other signs of life. He's beginning to wonder if Tilly's arrival was some sort of accident.

He'd like to say that it's much nicer working here with someone to keep him company and help out, but Tilly, as he's found, is the kind of woman who does not appreciate being kidnapped from her world by some unseen force and transported into another. He can't blame her, though (he was just as frustrated, at first), and while he's grateful that she's warmed up to him, he knows she doesn't want to be here.

It's not that he particularly wants to be here, either, but...

Her occasional negativity is distracting.

Then again, lots of things are distracting.

At times, Dan's expression will turn vacant and he'll stare at something in the room as though he's trying to look past or through whatever it is, and then he'll blink and the look will vanish and he'll turn his attention back to the screen.
