The Youth Group coordinator at my church has a daughter who is suffering from leukemia. The doctors at CHKD found cancerous growths in Sarah's bone marrow when she was two years old. She's been in and out of remission for the past six years. One of the men at the homeless shelter was recently diagnosed with leukemia as well.
Both my paternal uncle and my cousin suffer from neurofibromatosis, as did my grandfather for most of his life. The tumors are benign but there are some that surround their spines and can cause nerve pinching and growths. For most of his childhood, Uncle Steve had a large, egg-shaped growth at the base of his skull until he had it surgically removed.
My paternal aunt suffers from breast cancer and had to have a mastectomy a couple years back.
