End of line.

Just got back from watching TRON: Legacy on IMAX 3D (ooooh YEAH!).

Thoughts after the cut! (MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD!)

There are some negative reviews out there saying that the story isn't very good. A lot of people really have not liked it.
But you know what?

I DON'T CARE WHAT THEY SAY, I LOVED IT!!!
DUUUUDE! It was so freaking awesome! I mean, sure the story could have been a little better, there were one or two things they could have fixed, and whatnot, but I LOVED IT!!! And actually, when I think about it, in terms of story, I think this one was even better than the original. WHICH I LOVE, BY THE WAY! I really do love the original and I actually came in to this one hugely excited, but also really, really hoping Disney wouldn't screw up while bracing myself for what I considered to be an inevitable letdown. Turns out I was just really, really wrong!

I kept fearing what they would have done to Flynn's character, thinking they had somehow screwed up with his characterization, which I really expected to have happened, but it really didn't! Jeff Bridges was a fantastic Kevin Flynn, which more than a few sides of The Dude thrown in the middle, which actually only made me love him more. AND HE HAD COOL USER JEDI SUPER POWERS!!!! Which he already had to some extent in the first movie, but now it's just so much more badass. And it makes sense, considering how long he's been there. He's like Ben Kenobi, complete with Jedi robes and all.

And Sam Flynn! Oh boy! He really was his dad's son! He had the wit and the snark and the awesome gaming abilities. One of my favorite moments was when he was about to face Clu on the lightcycle race and they handed him the stick thingy and his first instinct was to swish it like a lightsaber. LOL My friend and I were actually hoping he'd fall face-first on the floor on his first try, WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN TOTALLY UNDERSTANDABLE AND I REALLY WISH HAD HAPPENED! Though I can see why they didn't go there... But still, it would have been awesome. "OK, so I jump and it becomes a motorcycle? AWESOME! Here we go! WHOOO----" *THUMP* "OUCH!!!!" XD XD XD

And then there was Quorra! I knew Olivia Wilde as Thirteen from House, and I have to admit I really didn't expect much from her at all from watching the trailers... But you know what? She was kind of my favorite character in this movie! Her complete and utter glee when she thought Sam actually knew Jules Verne just made me fall in love with her instantly! THAT WAS SO ADORABLE!!! She was completely adorable. I really do hope they make a sequel 'cause I just want to see her having to adjust to our "user" life. (Please tell me I wasn't the only one shipping Sam/Quorra in this movie!)
Also? She was badass. Badass and adorable, that's a killer combination right there. I just wonder what Clu actually planned on doing with her when he took her and didn't "convert" her (I forgot what the actual term was). He never actually got to say it. (Another thing that left me wondering: why didn't Sam use that second lightcycle stick thingy he got after the lightcycle race? He had that with him all the time, I was expecting him to use it at some point!)

OH! And speaking of Clu... That CGI thing they did to Jeff Bridges' face to make him look younger looked really, really good. I mean, it did kind of look like he had tons of botox on his face, but as computer graphics go, I thought it looked really good! Also, young!TRON! You could only see a glimpse of him, but it looked exactly like him. :D

By the way, I kind of already knew Rinzler was TRON, though not right away. But after they showed TRON saving Flynn and then panned away at the moment he was supposedly "killed", and then when I asked myself at one point "How come Rinzler is the only program on this movie that doesn't show his face? What's up with that???" IT JUST HIT ME!!!! OF COURSE that was TRON! No wonder he can fight like that. HE'S TRON!!!
And that made me love the movie even more 'cause I was just hoping that TRON would be in there, sooooooo badly, and I thought he wouldn't be. BUT HE WAS! And he turned blue at the end! AND HE TOTALLY DIDN'T DIE, I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU SAY!

However, the things that made me love the movie as much as I did were: 1) the visuals; and 2) the soundtrack.
That movie was visually gorgeous! I mean... Black and bright blue! That is such a perfect combination. Even though it looked completely different from the old movie, it actually looked like an updated version of that old Grid.
And when you have THAT, combined with that killer soundtrack, WHO CARES ABOUT THE STORY??? XPPP (I WANT THAT SOUNDTRACK!!!)
[ETA: I loved that Daft Punk was in the movie! I particularly loved that moment at the bar, when the bad guys showed up and they stopped the music they were playing and turned to each other, as if saying "How about fight song?" "Yup! Fight song, definitely!" and then changed to a fight-appropriate tune as Sam and Quorra started fighting. Haha! Awesome!]

I honestly walked out of the movie with the soundtrack still in my head, it was completely dark, the streets were all black, but there were Christmas lights lined up all around... I just felt like I was IN the Grid! It was a very, very weird feeling. I actually had to pat my back to check that there really wasn't a disc there. XP

And I love the little callbacks to the original, particularly the "End of Line" bar and those two little Bits that Flynn had in his house... shelter... asylum... thing. (And I also really do hope that someone finds a Pacman hidden in the background at some point in the movie.)

OH, and my action figure-obsessed self really, really loved those little TRON toys that little!Sam had around his house. XD What can I say? That's just who I am!!!

So yes, I did love this movie! And I certainly hope to watch it again soon. :) And I also hope it won't take long for the DVD to arrive 'cause I just KNOW there will be vids coming about this movie. JUST YOU WAIT!!!!!
