Long Shadows Before Sunset

Long Shadows Before Sunset

Here we sit,
together but alone,
Watching nature:
what is left of it.

Here we sit,
breathing deeply,
sweet, sweet air,
safely on the edge.

As we sit,
we also fly:
not by our own wings,
but by our machines' power.

As we sit,
we also think,
and see,
and perceive.

Here we sit,
bitter waters
flowing by,
full of garbage.

Here we sit,
far enough for freedom
from the common ways
of toxic destruction.
