So I didn't update after every replacement like I wanted to but everything just went so fast I couldn't keep up. First things first, the van is running and is finally my primary mode of transportation. Can I get a hell yeah!
So after the plugs and wires I started with the vacuum pressure. I replaced the PCV valve which from what I understand puts some of the exhaust back into the engine to burn it again. I also replaced several of the hoses running from the fuel lines and vacuum lines. There were some that had started cracking but they all seemed free of blockage. Opposite the PCV is a breather cap which lets out the same gases through a filter. This was also replaced. the old one looked like shit and was very clogged. So now that the engine was breathing better I replaced the fuel filter. The weight difference between the old and new could only lead me to believe that it was full of debris. It was after this that I took it for another drive and the van worked like a champ.
I took the cookie monster in for an oil change and when they lifted the van up in the air they let me check out underneath it. The tires are fucked. they are so cracked and rotted from sitting that I am shocked they havent blown. The exhaust looked like new so must have been replaced recently. The oil came out pretty clean and did not smell which is a good sign of engine wear. The only thing that looked in rough condition underneath was the frame mounts. They are just big blocks of rubber between the frame and the body. Seems that the rotting of the tires and the mounts had a similar affect. Also could have been from heavy hauling putting excess weight on the rubber. Tires are going to cost like $750 with an allignment and everything else. It seems worth it since the van can't drive in snow without putting me in a ditch.
SO the an is running fine. I just have a few little things I want to do in the engine but it is pretty much in working order. All I have to do besides replace the tires is paint up the sides with some crazy shit. Laura is in the progress of making some curtains for the back and sides to complete the hippie van motif.
