Roudhouse Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3, and Chapter 4 Dean stared at the rear window looking at Hermione nodding off in the back seat of the car, while Sam lay asleep in the shotguns seat. He would never had thought that he would be going on a hunt again with his brother, specially with a girl in the back of his seat. His thoughts where to soon interrupted as Sam jerked awake. With concern he asked him, “You okay?” Pulling Hermione’s attention as she sat up in her seat.
“Yeah I’m Fine.” Sam responded. As he too sat up straight in his seat hoping that none of them would ask more question. However, he wasn’t that lucky. “Another nightmare?” this time the question was asked by Hermione. Dean and her where well aware of his lack of sleep, it was very difficult to hid when every minute of the day was spend with each other.
Not wanting to go further into the conversation Sam cleared his throat and looked straight at the road. “You wanna drive for a while?” Dean asked him with a smirk, making Sam laugh. “In your whole life you never once asked me that,” he turned around to see his brother staring at the road. “Just thought you might want to,” Dean looked at him for a while and then shook is head. “Never mind,” Dean said with lest effort. He tried to shear up his brother. But he this was not the way.
“That was nice of you, letting your brother drive. It could help you rest a while.” Hermione said from the back of the car. She admired Dean’s effort in trying to connect more with his brother. Dean was broke from the connection he was having with his brother. He had forgotten just for a second that she was back there. Seeing that she was so quiet back there. ‘She was probably plotting something’ he thought.
Sam broke the silent, as he try to reassure them that he was okay. “Look I know that you two are worried about me, I get it and thank you but I'm perfectly okay,” he told them. He didn’t want them to worry about him. Even though he had a conversation with Hermione a few days prior. He knew that they were worry about him.
Hermione trying to change the subject asked, “All right...where are we?” She was trying to move the conversation knowing that Sam wasn’t comfortable with the subject.
“We are just outside of Grand Junction.” Dean answered knowing that if he shouldn’t push the subject and that it was wise of the brunet in the back to change the subject. Looking at the back seat throw the rear mirror, he saw her looking at the map. He smirked at himself at her effort to know where they where.
“You know what? Maybe we shouldn't have left Stanford so soon,” Sam stated all of a sudden making Dean glance at his and Hermione to put the map down. She was confuse at his sudden change of choice. She though by finding his father would give them more information into finding Jessica’s killer.
“Sam you know that we made the right decision in coming in search for dad. If you wanna find the thing that killed Jessica…” Dean said. “We gotta find dad first,” Sam stated, finishing Dean’s sentence. Sam knew this was the only way. But he wasn’t sure what he was doing anymore. All the nightmares weren’t helping him either.
“Dad disappearing, and this thing showing up again after twenty years, it's no coincidence. Dad will have answers; he'll know what to do.” Dean reassured his brother. He had great admiration for his father and deeply believed in what ever he was doing.
“Isn’t it a little that these coordinates he left you. Blackwater Ridge.” Hermione said interrupting the moment between the two brothers. Dean looked at her a little irritated with her questioning of the location. “What about it?” He asked her. “Well there's nothing there, it's just woods. Why would he send you to the middle of nowhere?” She said as she looked through the map. Her persistence in wanting to know everything was irritating Dean. Ignoring her question he kept driving as he past the ‘Welcome to Lost Creek, Colorado,’ sign. Soon after arriving in the Visitors Center.
Dean parked the impala in front of the center. Hermione rapidly got out of the car and streach her body from her same position it had been for the past few days. Unnoticing the oldest Winchester staring at her. She started to follow Sam as he entered the small center with Dean behind her. Once they enter, they where face with what seemed a miniature map of the area around them. “So Blackwater Ridge is pretty remote. It's cut off by these canyons here, rough terrain, dense forest, abandoned silver and gold mines all over the place,” Sam said to Hermione as they observe the map together.
“Dude check out the size of this freakin bear,” Dean express looking at a picture of a bear in the wall. Hermione laugh at his expression at the image of the bear. “And a dozen or more grizzlies in the area. It's no nature hike that's for sure, ” she told Dean while she still laughed. Making Sam shake his head.
Soon the where interrupted by a ranger as he appear behind Hermione making her jump when he spoke to face him. “You kids aren't planning on going out near Blackwater Ridge by any chance?” he asked them. “Oh no sir, we're environmental study majors from UC Boulder, just working on a paper,” Sam quickly told the ranger.
“Recycle, man.” Dean express while raising his hand in the air in a fist, while Hermione just role her eyes at his action.
But the ranger wasn’t buying Sam’s answer. “Bull. You're friends with that Hailey girl right?” He said instead. Finding the perfect opportunity to find out more information Dean responded, “you got us there ranger…” he pause while he looked at his nametag, “Wilkinson, we are.” Sam looked at Dean in wondering what he was doing, they where here to look for his dad and not what ever was going on.
“Well I will tell you exactly what we told her. Her brother filled out a backcountry permit saying he wouldn't be back from Blackwater till the 24th, so it's not exactly a missing persons now is it? You tell that girl to quit worrying, I'm sure her brothers just fine.” The ranger responded to them. He seemed irritated.
“We will Sir,” Hermione told the ranger, trying to be polite to him. She didn’t know what was going on but she didn’t want the man to become suspicious of them. While Dean added, “well that Hailey girl's quite a pistol, huh?” making Hermione role her eyes for the second time that same day.
“That is putting it mildly,” the ranger informed them as he chuckle.
“Actually you know what would help is if I could show her a copy of that backcountry permit you know so she could see her brothers return date.” Dean told the man. Hermione and Sam both turn to Dean. ‘What the hell was he thinking?’ they where both thinking. Dean was booking a case, when they where already in one. The ranger nodded to him as he went to get the paper from a folder in his desk, the whole time Hermione and Sam didn’t take their eyes from Dean, the ranger return with the form in hand.
“Thank you,” Dean said as he turned towards the exit closely follow by them.
Sam was in the point of anger and rage with what Dean did back at the center. “What are you cruising for a hook-up or something?” He told him as they read the car.
“What do you mean?” Dean asked innocently. He was doing a job after all. “The coordinates point to Blackwater Ridge so what are we waiting for, let's just go find dad. I mean why even talk to this girl?” Sam said. Hermione was keeping out of the conversation. She didn’t wanted to get into the argument between the brothers. However, she did agree with Sam. She didn’t know why Dean was even looking more into the case, when their purpose there was looking for their father.
“I dunno maybe we should know what we're walking in to before we actually walk into it,” Dean defended himself. He knew that Sam wanted to get to his father. He wanted answers and most importantly he wanted to get to Jessica’s killer. Dean kept staring at his brother strangely until Sam finally spoke, “what?”
“Well since when are you all shoot first ask questions later anyway?” he finally told him. “Since now,” he looked at him with anger. “Oh, really?” Hermione now felt the erg to interfere between the two brothers. “We should see what is up with this family Sam.” She didn’t want to side with Dean, but the fact was that Dean was write. They couldn’t go in blind. Sam stared at Hermione with an expression of betrayed making Hermione look down. She didn’t wanted him to feel that way.
“Let’s go.” They got into the car and headed towards the address in the form. Once they arrive Dean started to pulled out an identification card from a box. “You are staying in the car,” he told Hermione. “What, you can’t leave me in the car.” She told him angrily. “You don’t have any identification,” he told her with a smirk plaster in his face. “You where planning this to happen didn’t you.”
“Yep,” was his respond when he got out of the car. “Dean is right Hermione, we will be back.” Sam said as he got out of the car also. Hermione saw them as they went to knock at the door. This got her mad. She needed to get identifications. If she was going to be with them, she knew well that this was going to happen more times. But she did have her wand and that is when she thought about the spell she had use many times before making her feel stupid. She did have identification. She knew a spell where it allow her to transform identification to what ever license she wanted to. She had learned the trick when she was in the Order.
She lay down in the back of the seat waiting for the boys to come back, slowly going to sleep. She was later woken by the sound of a slamming door. Grinning back her anger. Knowing well that Dean had done it on purpose she sat up in the back seat. “So how did it go,” she asked him.
“We should go get something to eat first,” Dean said. Hermione just sat all the way back in her seat. She hated that Dean made her feel as if she was at Hogwarts again. She didn’t wish to argue with him. They had been doing so well so far. She just stood quiet something she was not use to doing.
Dean ended up pulling up in a local bar. While Dean had order food, both Hermione and Sam where looking up information after they had told her the information they had gotten from Hailey and about her brother. They saw that something was not normal from the case.
Hermione took out some newspaper articles from a folder when Dean came back to the table they where currently set up in. “So, Blackwater Ridge doesn't get a lot of traffic, local campers mostly. But still, this past April two hikers went missing out there, they were never found.” She told him while she handed the newspaper to him while Sam was in the laptop. “Any before that?” He said as he read the article that she handed him.
Sam having the laptop in front of him told him the answer. “Yeah In 1982, eight different people all vanished in the same year. Authorities said it was a grizzly attack. And again in 1959 and again before that in 1936. Every 23 years, just like clockwork.” Sam started looking for a file in his computer. “Okay watch this. Here's a clincher. I downloaded that guy, Tommy's, video to the laptop. Check this out.” Both Hermione and Dean where on either side of Sam checking out the video. He played the video slowly. Hermione catching something in the shadow asked him to try it again.
“That's three frames. That's a fraction of a second. Whatever that thing is, it can move,” Sam informed them. “Told ya something weird was goin on,” Dean said with a grin in his face and hit his brother in the arm.
“Yeah. I got one more thing. In '59 one camper survived this supposed grizzly attack. Just a kid. Barely crawled out of the woods alive,” Hermione told them as she waved a paper in front of the boys. She was to getting into the case. It was a good distraction. She loved researching. “Is there a name?” Dean asked her. She smile to him, “yes Mr. Shaw and this time I am heading with you guys.”
“I told you that you don’t have identification,” Dean told her. Sam close the laptop knowing that they where going to start an argument. “You have forgotten that I am a witch,” she said in a whisper to him in a close distant. “Sorry I haven’t forgot…” but he cut of before he could end his sentence. He knew where she was going with it. She could create her own identification.
“Great,” he said while she smiled innocently. Sam just shock his head at their arguments making him smile. After they ate they headed towards Mr. Shaw’s house. “I will stay in the car,” Sam said. “You are going to let me go with her alone,” Dean complained. “What you are afraid,” she told him. “Oh, I don’t get afraid little girl.” He said as he walked to the house and knock at the door.
A man answered the door. Both Hermione and Dean showed the identification and lead them in.
“Look ranger, I don't know why you're asking me about this. It's public record; I was a kid. My parents got mauled by a...” the man stated when Hermione finish his sentence. “Grizzly? That's what attacked them?” She told making Mr. Shan nod.
“The other people that went missing that year... those bear attacks too? What about all the people that went missing this year? Same thing? If we knew what we were dealing with, we might be able to stop it.” Hermione put her hand on Dean’s arm and shook her head. He was pushing it to much.
But Mr. Shaw did respond to his questions, “I seriously doubt that. Anyways, I don't see what difference it would make. You wouldn't believe me, nobody ever did.”
Hermione left Dean standing behind her as she walked towards Mr. Shaw, which was now sitting in a chair after, “Mr. Shaw, what did you see?” She was concern for this man. She could see fear in the olds man eyes.
“Nothing. It moved too fast to see, it hid too well. I heard it though, a roar, like... no man or animal I ever heard,” he told her.
“It came at night?” she asked him. All that he did was nod his head. “It got inside your tent?” she asked him.
He shock his head again. “It got inside our cabin. I was sleepin in front of the fireplace when it came in. It didn't smash a window or break the door, it unlocked it. Do you know of a bear that could do something like that? I didn't even wake up till I heard my parents screamin'.” He said while staring at the floor.
“It killed them?” Hermione was know placing an arm at the mans shoulder. She didn’t like seeing pain from individuals. “Dragged them off into the night,” he told her.
“Why it left me alive...been asking myself that ever since. Did leave me this though.” He ended up opening his shirt to show a three big cars across his chest. “There's something evil in those woods. It was some sort of a demon.” He said as he looked up at Hermione. Hermione felt pain for the man. There was just so much pain in his eyes. “Thank you for your time,” she said as both of them left.
“You okay,” Dean asked her as they started walking towards the car. “Yeah,” she reassures him with a small smile. Once they got to the car they told Sam what they had discover. They headed towards the hotel to get a night rest before the headed out to try to find what was really in the forest in the morning.
“Spirits and demons don't have to unlock doors. If they want inside they just go through the walls,” he stated to them. To see if they could get ideas from what may be out there.
“So it's probably something else, something corporeal,” Hermione informed them. “Wow, Corporeal? It’s a big world for a little girl,” Dean told her. Hermione looked at him. “Look I am trying to help also.” She was getting tire of his game.
“Dean just Shut up. What do you think of it?” Sam was getting also tire of his brother’s games. “The claws, the speed that it moves, could be a skin walker, maybe a black dog. Whatever we're talking about, we're talking about a creature and it's corporeal. Which means we can kill it.” Was all Dean told them while he open his trunk graving a duffel bag inside.
“We cannot let that Hailey girl go out there. She is going out there looking for her brother.” Sam told them.
“Oh yeah? What are we gonna tell her? That she can't go into the woods because of a big scary monster?” Hermione said to him. They had told her that Hailey and her other younger brother where going to head out to look for their brother themselves. Hermione knew as much as the Winchesters that people would do anything for the ones that they loved.
“Yeah,” was all he responded.
“Her brother's missing Sam,” Dean told him. All three of them where standing by the trunk of the impala. “She's not just gonna sit this out.” Hermione told him. “Now we go with her, we protect her, and we keep our eyes peeled for our fuzzy predator-friend.” Dean finish.
“What the two of you decided to gang up on me. Finding dad's not enough? Now we gotta babysit too?” He almost yelled it out to them. Hermione didn’t know what to do. She wanted to find Jess’s killer but. She knew better than anyone that if there was people that needed help they had to help. They couldn’t just leave them. This couldn’t escape her.
“Look let’s just go get some rest.” Hermione told them. They both nodded and headed towards the rooms to get some rest. Hermione had felt weird since she had been with the boys She had felt as if she had been being watch. It was a feeling she didn’t like. However, she brushed it off ignoring her feeling. Unnoticing the individual looking out for them.
The next morning they arrived by the mountains to see that Hailey, Ben (her other brother), and the man she hire already there.
