I must say though that if you're interested in making icons, you should just go ahead and start. I had no graphic design experience before coming to LJ; ann1962 had no graphic design experience (that I know of) before coming to LJ; atpolittlebit probably had tons of graphic design experience before coming to LJ. All it really takes is practice!
