It's by Larry Kirwan of Black 47. John convinces the Beatles not to show up at a recording session where the record execs want them to do a cover version of, get this, "Till There Was You"...except for Paul, who goes by himself, has a hit, & becomes all famous & Americanized. Actually, the Beatles did go to the session and recorded "Please Please Me" instead, & the rest is real-life history. But in the novel, they never made it big. By the 1980s, the world is very different....
