I FUCKING CALLED IT

Dec 10, 2014 22:29

Everything under a cut, for reasons of spoilers for Avengers World #16, but I called it y'all! And nobody can say I didn't, because the fics are posted and one of them's from 2012, so there.

There's no feeling quite like writing something into a fic and then having that thing show up in canon. It's this mix of joy, because "HAHAHA CALLED IT!" and satisfaction that you really, really get these characters, you know?

Anyway, as of today's Avengers World #16, Cassie Lang's back to life in the main Marvel comics universe (616)!

Long time readers of this blog might remember that I wrote to fic in which Doom regrets killing Cassie. In one he is reluctant to cause her death again (Strange Aeons, timetravel's involved) and in another he is actively working to save her (The Nameless City, that I posted on Saturday, and what a good idea that was).

Here's what's happened in the issue: Doom gains access to a portion of the Scarlet Witch's power. There is a page with the following narration:

Victor von Doom approaches a power long coveted. The power to remake reality itself -- to absolve him of his sins.

Of which he has so many.

He reflects on all the pain he has caused, the lives he has taken. All in the name of conquest. Glory.

Vanity.

And for a moment, he is tempted --

He could use this to heal himself. To repair his own life, become the person he might've been if his beloved mother hadn't been snatched away from him.

But he resists. He will do good here. For others. Not for Doom.

He wishes to correct it all, to wipe the slate clean once again -- but what the device captured is not enough. Only a little of the Witch's power -- only enough to right one wrong.

And so he makes his choice.

Then we get this page:

Transcript:
A young girl. Noble in spirit. A hero. One not unlike what little Valeria might be in not so many years.

Her name was Cassie Lang. The Young Avenger called Stature.

Her father had been a hero as well -- until he died in battle, at the Witch's hand.

The girl fought against all odds to bring him -- to best reality itself.

And amazingly, she succeeded. Father and daughter were together once again.

But then -- just as they were reunited -- Doom, in the cruelest of twists, murdered her in cold blood. An innocent life snuffed out, a family torn asunder once more. A father left to grieve.

Now Doom commands the dark magicks to restore what was lost. To erase even the memory of the pain. In a life of so much evil, it may not be much --

The next page opens with a "-- But in this moment --" narration box and is a page of Scott Lang and (presumably) Darla Deering chilling on a couch and watching Orange is the New Black until the door bell rings and Scott goes to open the door.

Here's who's behind the door.

-- It is enough.

Yeah, it's Cassie.

HOLY SHIT Y'ALL CASSIE'S BACK

I still can't quite believe it. I've been waiting so long for this. So long. Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?

So yeah, this is what I've been reading today.
