So! Way back in October/September 2012, Journey into Mystery was ending and it was announced that both kid!Loki and Kate Bishop would be in the new Young Avengers series. I took a stab at a fancomic for this team-up (and then there were more team-ups). I drew and wrote the whole thing, but I never ended up inking or colouring it. I'm certainly not doing it now, because the art is so old; I feel like I should redo the whole thing and I remember how sick of it I was when I drew it the first time and that was 18+ months ago.
I kind of forgot about it until
ericadawn16 reminded be of it with a comment on something else, so I pulled up Photoshop and added word ballons to the original artwork, did a couple of edit-y things to it (not much, i'm working with a mouse, it's not easy) and now I'm posting it.
The lay-out is two pages at once, so you should only read until the middle mark, then down, then up at the middle mark. Like if you were holding it as a book (this is because of formatting and the double-page spreads).
Coloured speech bubbles, because I never figured out how to do borders and white on white doesn't show. Default Photoshop speech bubble format, too, which means the bubbles aren't always pointing in the best direction. Hence, coloured speech bubble so who is speaking is clearer.
Because CASSIE! I like how the photograph turned out.
Double page spread, fancy! (Imagine a space-time continuum in the background.)
Enter Leah. I am not entirely sure why Kate is so violent. I know I had a good reason, but that was years ago.
Leah to the rescue. I'm trying to keep everyone's relative heights consistent.
It's not clear from the scan, but Leah is cutting a piece of Kat's hair off and using some of her blood to draw a magic circle.
(Lol, fancy lettering.) Originally, if I was going to colour it, I was going to give Hela Kate's hair colour instead of Leah's.
More timetravel in a double-page spread.
Kate recognises the bow as being a spare bow she had two years ago. I like the eyes and the panel with everyone with their heads together.
An explanation: Cassie is actually holding Jonas with her in her bubble. Yeah, this is going to be a fix-it for both YA and JiM and it is going to fix all the things.
Hela's hair is super fun to draw. (Also, remember what I said about Jonas? Notice how Cassie's fist stays closed.)
featuring guest art by Jim Cheung. Three guesses as to which panel it's in and the first two don't count. Vague attempts at body langauge are happening.
I did not draw that skyline or that map.
I like Cassie's expression in the first panel of the second page.
Double-page timeskip!
I think the panel of Valeria!Doctor Doom + Leah vs Ilyana!Queen of Hell has more details than the rest of the page combined.
Aw yeah, hugs!
So there you have it, the reason I am not a comics professional.
