That makes more sense now, thank you for the explanation.

They weren't Hannibal-specific tactics books, but they both had a bit about the awesome things he did, because, well, he did awesome things. Probably the most interesting was Intelligence Activities in Ancient Rome: Trust in the Gods But Verify by Rose Mary Sheldon (which I was reading for fic research + the vague idea that I might write origfic about Hadrian's spies), which included anecdotes like the bit with the cattle with flaming branches tied to them. Also apparently he flung venomous-snake bombs at ships. (This book also tries to argue that Julius Caesar must not have really wanted to conquer Britain because he was Julius Caesar and therefore he could have if he'd wanted to.)

I think there were also Hannibal anecdotes in Adrienne Mayor's Greek Fire, Poison Arrows & Scorpion Bombs: Biological and Chemical Warfare in the Ancient World, which was much less scholarly but still pretty interesting.

I got a story in four out of five fandoms, and ended up writing the fifth one, haha. So now Yuletide fic exists for all of my fandoms, but some of it was my doing.

Also that still sounds totally awesome as a story and I would love to read it if you'd be up for it, and, yes, .mobi would be lovely. I am sineala at gmail.

I didn't even realise I'd messed up the html. I'm sorry!

I would totally read a novel on Hadrian's spies, fyi. The snake-bombs are kind of really cool, seriously. Thank you for the recs.

I sent it to you, let me know if you got it? The adress is waitwhatyousaying at yahoo dot fr. (Wait, hold on, I just remembered, starting from Trasimene, there's stuff about f!Hannibal's eye that reaches its height at the end of and after the conversation with Symesh, so watch out for that.)

No problem. :)

The snake-bombs are my very favorite thing, I think.

I did get it and wrote you back, and thanks for the warning about the eye stuff.

I'm really tempted to have some snake-bombs in the novel, ngl.

I saw, but wasn't sure how to answer without going /bites fingers anxiously. You're welcome.
