Author’s Notes: My friend Jane started a crack Harry Potter fic and she kind of inspired me to start this. I never though I would ever publish it though. Now look at where I am. Haha.
Chapter 5: The Marauders and Their Slytherin Friend
“Oi Victoria!” Sirius Black called out to her as their free period began. James Potter, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew trailed behind him and they came up to her.
“Prongs, Padfoot, Moony, Wormtail. What’s up? You all have this mischievous look in your eyes.” Victoria stated as they stopped before her.
“We just came up with something that will help us to avoid getting caught after curfew.” James said as Peter pulled out what looked like a blank piece of parchment.
She grabbed it and examined the parchment intently.
“Is this it?” She started to laugh. “A blank piece of parchment?”
“Oh come on. We thought you would have more faith in us than that.” Sirius stated as he took it from her.
“I solemnly swear that I am up to no good.” James said as he tapped the parchment with his wand. Ink started to appear on the parchment and a crest on the front of the folded side read, “Messrs. Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs Purveyors of Aids to Magical Mischief-Makers are proud to present The Marauder’s Map.”
“Ok guys. What have you come up with this time?” Victoria asked after reading the small crest.
“Check this out.” Remus said with enthusiasm as Sirius opened the parchment up all the way. An entire map of Hogwarts was on the parchment, every hall, secret passageway, classroom, and corner of the castle. There were small black, labelled dots all over the paper. “Each one of those dots is a person within the boundaries of Hogwarts. Needless to say the map labels people by their names. It shows where they are, what they are doing, every second of every day.”
“Hey look there’s your lover Victoria.” Peter said as he pointed to Severus’ name on the map.
“He is not my lover.” Victoria stated sternly.
“Oh god Lily’s coming!” James exclaimed, knowing that if Lily saw him with something like this she would be find him even more childish. “Mischief managed.” James said as he tapped the map with his wand. All of the ink started to disappear and it was once again just a blank piece of parchment.
“Wicked!!” Victoria exclaimed as Lily approached behind them.
“What’s wicked?” Lily questioned. “What are you guys up to?”
“Just planning another prank.” Sirius stated.
“Oh Victoria… Don’t tell me that you’re planning on taking part in their plan.” Victoria just smiled as Lily shook her head. “If you guys get caught I am going to laugh at you.”
“We won’t get caught.” James said as everyone else smiled. “I do have an invisibility cloak Lily.”
“Just tell me one thing… Who is the prank on?” Lily asked James.
“Top secret, my dear Lily.”
“I have a quite a bit of studying to do.” Lily said with slight disgust and once again resumed walking down the hall towards the Gryffindor common room.
“So what are you guys really planning to do with this?” Victoria asked not accepting what they told Lily although it made sense.
“We plan on sneaking into Filch’s office. He takes a lot of good things for prank purposes…. Thought we might be able to reclaim some of them…” Sirius replied.
“That has to be the most idiotic plan I have ever heard… I’m down.”
“We knew that you probably would be.” Peter said with a smirk.
“So when are you guys doing this?”
The Marauders looked at each other and then at Victoria, “Tonight.” They said in unison.
“A bit of a short notice for me….” Victoria stated.
“Yeah, sorry about that.” Remus said a little embarrassed.
“I’ll still go but… where should I meet you guys?”
“How about…” James started to reply when Sirius cut him off.
“The courtyard?”
“The courtyard? Ok… When?”
“After dinner.”
After the talk with the Marauders, Victoria made her way back to the Slytherin common room. Viera and Severus were both helping each other out with their homework in the common room. “Oh my Stalin! You guys are studying and I didn’t have to bug you to do it…” Victoria said as she plopped herself down beside Viera.
“That actually happens a lot. It’s just when you are around we have so much fun that we forget.”
“Well then maybe I should leave.” Victoria said as she started to walk past the two.
“No, no. Stay.” Severus said as he grabbed her arm and sat her down between himself and Viera. “We were actually starting to wonder about you.”
“I got into a conversation with the Marauders.”
“The Marauders?” Viera asked.
“James Potter and his group.” Victoria replied as Severus rolled his eyes.
“Oh...”
“So what did they want?” Severus asked sternly as he went back to focusing on his homework.
“They just need my help with something tonight…”
“A prank?”
“Eh, not really.”
“Not on me is it?”
“Use your brain Sev… Would I take part in one of their pranks on you? No…”
“Good point. You help me, not them.”
“So what are you guys working on? I’ll join you.”
“Well Sev just started on Herbology, and I just started Arithmancy.” Viera stated.
“I’m going to go and grab my things out of the dorm. I’ll be back.”
Although she just transferred, Viera could tell just by Severus’ tone and what she witnesses a few weeks ago, that he and the Marauders did not get along at all. Viera could read other people’s thoughts and minds, but Severus was extremely good at Occlumency. She could see certain things but a lot was blocked from her. He eventually noticed that she was in his mind and gave her a glance from across the table. Viera did not see much but she saw enough to show how Severus felt about Victoria hanging around with the Marauders. “You are scared of her friendship with them aren’t you?” Viera asked him as his attention went back to his homework.
“How would you feel if one of your best friends was hanging around people who hate you with a passion?” Severus replied somewhat coldly.
“Scared… and a little worried.” Viera replied in a hushed voice.
“There is your answer.”
“Victoria would never go against you though.”
“How would you know? You haven’t known her long enough…”
“You have. You don’t really think she would…?” He kept his eyes on his homework as Victoria made their way back to them with her work, Viera’s eyes giving him a look of disbelief.
* The Courtyard *
Victoria sat on a bench and waited for the Marauders to show up. Every once in a while a teacher would patrol the halls and she would have to hide in a bush. “Hurry up guys!” Victoria thought. She soon after felt a hand on her shoulder but no one could be seen. “Hi guys…”
“Damn that didn’t scare her.” Peter said somewhat disappointed.
“Of course not she already knew that we would come for her under the cloak like this.” Remus replied.
“Ok well, let’s not stand here all bloody night! Let’s get moving!” Victoria said.
“Okie-dokie.” James said as Victoria went under the invisibility cloak. “Ok now we need to go over here and then down over there…. No one is out so we should be ok.”
“I take it you’re using the map?” Victoria asked.
“Of course we are.” Sirius said with a smile.
“How is it that we all fit under here?” Remus started to question coming to the realization that there were now five people under the cloak.
“I have no idea.”
“Are we there yet?” Peter asked.
“Ok now, everybody shut up or we will all be caught.” James said as they rounded a corner and started to open the office door. They quickly got in and shut the door. James took off the cloak and everyone started to look around.
“Charming.” Victoria said as she pointed at the chains hanging from the walls.
“Well at least I know where to come if I want a little kinkiness…” Sirius stated. Everyone just looked at him and sighed. He got all the girls so it wasn’t really a surprising statement coming from him. The room really wasn’t all that different from rooms in the dungeons, but Filch liked to keep his office intimidating. Victoria went and examined the chains more closely and was somewhat amazed.
“These are very well cared for, still lubricated…” Victoria turned around and started walking back towards the guys. “Seems to be the only thing he enjoys taking care of other than his cat.” James and Remus abandoned the record cabinets and made their way over to Filch’s desk and opened a few drawers.
“Jackpot!” James said as everyone rushed over. James placed the map on the desk and began to look through the drawer. “Dungbombs, Hiccup Sweets, Nose-Biting Teacups, look at all this stuff!”
“Well, now you guys don’t have to go to Zonko’s for a while now huh?” Victoria asked as Sirius started to pocket some of the stuff.
“Yeah, that is if we can take all of this.”
“Uh you guys! CODE RED!!!” Peter screamed at them as Filch’s name started to move towards the door on the Marauder’s Map. James quickly ran for his cloak as Remus closed the desk drawer.
“Get into the closet.” James said.
“Are you fucking serious?” Victoria asked.
“I’m Sirius and no he is not.” Sirius stated.
“Not the time you blundering idiot. ‘Serious’ not ‘Sirius’.”
“Just get in the closet!” James said as Sirius opened the door.
They all piled in and James put the invisibility cloak over them. “I can’t believe this. I should have stayed in the common room….” Victoria said with a sigh.
“Shut up!” Peter exclaimed quietly as Filch and his cat, Mrs. Norris, walked in the door.
“Damn bloody kids.” Filch said as he closed the door.
“Oh shit...” Remus whispered.
“What’s wrong Moony?” Victoria asked since she was closest to him.
“I left the map on the desk…”
“Nice going Moony. Please tell me it isn’t exposing the school grounds.”
“No it’s not… Sorry.”
“What’s this now?” Filch said as he picked up the map. “Unusually large piece of parchment.” Everyone in the closet stared at Remus. Remus just shrugged. “That was not in here when I left… someone is or was out and about… but who?”
“Well now we have to wait until he leaves to get the map back and get the hell out of here.” James whispered.
“You do know that today is Friday right? We could be here for a long time.” Sirius informed the group but mostly James.
“You guys shut up!!” Peter whispered and Mrs. Norris came up to the closet and started meowing.
“What is it Mrs. Norris? Is someone in there?” The group held their breath as the door opened. Filch started into what seemed like an empty closet, “Isn’t anything there love.” Mrs. Norris started to move away as Filch closed the door. It was a number of hours before Filch left. Victoria had fallen asleep and Remus almost joined her but they were woken up by James. “Oi! Victoria, Remus. Wake up! Filch just left… now is our chance to leave.”
“But first the map.” Victoria said as she started to wake up. The group opened the door of the closet and slowly made their way over to the desk. Peter grabbed the map as Sirius and James got more things out of the drawer. Victoria went over and closed the drawer and reminded them that they had to leave. James put the cloak back over the group and they made their way towards the Slytherin common room. The boys did not want Victoria to get caught by the teachers or Filch and were kind enough to deliver her before the entrance of her common room before returning to theirs.
Victoria walked into the Slytherin common room only to find Viera and Severus asleep. Viera was stretched out on the couch with her face in a pillow, and Severus was slouched down in a chair. Victoria just smiled knowing that they must have been waiting for her to come back. She looked at the clock wondering exactly what time it was… 02:30. Without disturbing her friends, Victoria crept into the dorm and collapsed on the bed. She didn’t bother to change out of her school robes and within a matter of minutes was out like a light.
