Well, June sure sucked. Here's to hoping that July is better.
As some of you are aware, I have a degenerative neurological condition called motor neuropathy. As a result, I use forearm crutches to get around when I'm not in the house. In the house I tend to use a cane while keeping my other hand on a piece of furniture or a wall to keep myself stable.
Anyway, during the first week of June I started having issues with my balance, even while using my cane. Admittedly, I should have called my doctor sooner than I did, but when I did, she agreed with me, that I needed to be seen right away. So I was given an appointment for later that day (Friday the 10th). Unfortunately, when it came time for me to go, I couldn't. I didn't have the strength to walk to the front of the house to catch my Uber ride. So the doctor said I should have an ambulance take me to the ER to be evaluated.
Long story short, following several long hours in the ER, I was admitted to the hospital and had a CT scan done around 2:30 in the morning. Apparently, the cause of my balance issues was an infection (and resulting swollen lump) in a gland near my ear. I think the doctor said it was the perotid gland. All I know is that even while I was taken to the ER the lump wasn't there. It wasn't until after I'd been there a number of hours that it appeared. It was the doctor that saw me after I'd already been admitted and sent to my room on the 4th floor that saw it and ordered an urgent CT. Fortunately, there was nothing in the CT that required further action such as a biopsy. However, I did have to spend a number of days on IV antibiotics.
After about 5 days in the hospital, I was transfered to a skilled nursing facility (SNF)/rehab center. I was in the SNF/rehab center until July 1st. So, after 3 weeks total in the hospital and rehab, I'm glad to be home. I'm still recovering strength wise, but at least I can move around my own home, even if it does tire me out.
Needless to say, I got absolutely nothing done creatively during June, but I'm not going to worry about that. Truth be told, I'm not going to about it during July either. If I get something written, fine. If I don't, that's fine, too.
I hope everyone else had a better month than I did. :)
