[There is a knocking on your door. Insistent. Loud. It doesn't matter really where you live or what fake address you've given him to where you live, he'll venture the halls.

It is a nice day. Warm sunshine if one looks. Why waste it?]

[In a sun dress, heavily pregnant, and more than a bit surprised to find him knocking at her door. Her first response is to strike out but she stays it for the moment, hoping she won't regret the decision in a few moments.]

What do you want?

You're a hard one to find, my dear. One would think you wouldn't want guests.

[He bows and tips his hat.] May I come in?

Y... yes. [She falters, then steps aside to allow him in. The room is neatly- nearly meticulously- kept, with an as-of-yet unused crib in one corner and the windows open to let air in. The only mess is on her desk, where an Ace of Hearts card, typewritter, clock parts, laptop, some jewelery and papers are scattered haphazardly on top.]

Did you need something?

[He steps inside and shuts the door behind him setting his hat on a nearby table. He doesn't move next to her, but leans against the wall instead.]

Honestly, I've come to give you something.

[She tenses, sliding a dagger into the palm of her hand behind her.]

What, exactly?

[He takes a blade out from his coat pocket and throws it into the wood of the table. It vibrates for a moment before going still.]

This. It should solve your troubles.

[If she looks closely or if her instincts are sharp, she'll feel that the blade is made of Innocence. It isn't activated nor does it have a user, but it is an Exorcist tool all the same.]

[Miranda steps back at the sight of the blade but stops suddenly when he embeds it in the table. Her own dagger is flicked back inside her skin as she looks over the gift.]

...why?

[Because somehow it feels ominous, receiving a gift like this from him of all people.]

Truth be told, I gathered the necessary equipment in to make this in order to kill you. Well, perhaps not kill as that has other meanings here, but I believe you understand the point.

[He crosses his arms over his chest as he leans back.]

But you still fear it, do you not?

[She stops herself, breathing deep and clenching her fists.]

That doesn't matter.

It does, you know. You're a smart woman. [There is a bit of irony and sarcasm seeping into his voice that he can't contain.] You can use this to kill it if it gets out of hand.

[He holds up his hands.]

But the choice is yours in the end to keep it or not. I'm here just to provide you with a solution.

[He has decided for better or for worse he needs to put this to rest. It has been bothering him too much of late. He has other things he should be worrying about. Other more important things.]

Why? [She needs to ask again, eyes constantly flickering back to the blade.]

Why would you offer me this... choice?

Because you are rather foolish. You horde and treasure something yet you loathe it at the same time. How you live in such a state is beyond my comprehension. And truly, I don't want to ever understand.

You hate the Earl in your world, don't you? Yet you cling to the life he has provided for you.

[He laughs.] You'll destroy yourself if you don't come to an answer. Maybe you will. Maybe you won't. But I'm just going to sit back and enjoy watching the outcome.

The life that was forced on me. [Her tone is snappish; terse.] I had no choice in- becoming this.

[She chews the inside of her lip, mulling over the words she wants to say and how to say them.] But I won't let you take it, because however I got it- it's mine.

Was it truly? Would you even say the color of your skin or hair was forced upon you? It makes you different I won't deny that, but it hardly makes you what you are.

That is something you need to decide for yourself. I'm surprised the Boss hasn't told you this.

[He shakes his head at the last part.] He's betrayed even his own yet you still cling to it.

I don't cling to it, or him, or- or anyone but myself. [She scowls.] And it's part of me.
