[When the alternative is letting her get eaten by crocodiles, or alligators, or badgertoads, or whatever those "logs" are? He'll even tuck the revolver away and offer her a hand, looking quite surprised.]

[ SUCH a gentleman, really. She shifts around a little to get "comfortable". ]

Well yes, but where? Last I checked I was towards the top of the place. [He pauses to consider that.] If it has a top anyway.

As if I know where its bottom is either. You're not too far though, since it didn't take me too far off the beaten path to get here...

[He takes off the hat and twirls it in his hands, frowning in genuine irritation for a moment.]

I was hoping for something along the lines of you confessing your undying and passionate love for me, but that'll do.

[A firefly settles itself in Bird's hair.] How've you been, Lady?

[ bats her eyelashes ] But darling, I thought you already knew.

I've been as well as can be expected... dare I ask the same?

Well it never hurts to hear it again. [He flaps a hand like a court dandy for a moment, then leans back comfortably on the branch.]

You know how it is at the whims of a fickle mistress. I suppose it could be worse.

Same old, same old, then. I was hoping you'd have some kind of exciting tale to tell, looking like that.

I have a few, actually. Well if you count pygmys and strange rivers of fruit and a tree made entirely of precious gems and metals and a whole slew of ghosts as exciting. And cheese. More cheese than you'd expect.

But alas, nothing I was seeking.
