[Clara is sitting out in a courtyard, sitting by a lake. Her shoes are off and she's dangling her legs over the side, her feet skimming the water. A piece of paper is clenched in her fist, held close to her chest. She'd just found her letter from her parents, which has lead to depression over losing them all over again.]

[Aren jumps into the lake and splashes around, until he notices her sitting further down on the bank. He swims over and sits in the water.]

You alright? [funny how he doesn't have a reflection in the water, even if she does]

[Looking up when she hears he splashing, and smiling at him] Hello Aren. I'm fine! Is the water nice? I was thinking I might go for a swim later.

[nods cheerfully] It's not too cold but not too warm! It's perfect! [curls his arms around his knees, smile fading for a moment, but he doesn't know what to ask, so he just kind of tilts his head and looks at her with his derpcute large eyes.]

Ah, that sounds good. [Blink blink, what is this staring for, th-those eyes... WEAKNESS] Aren?

[STAAAAARE] ... You kinda seem sad...

...I said I'm fine, don't worry about it.

[hmpfs and curls his arms back around his knees and rests his chin on them.] If you're sad then you're not fine.

[A little too fast] I'm not sad! I.. I mean, I shouldn't be, something good hapened so it's silly to be sad.

[tilts his head] I get sad a lot for silly stuff, but Mama hugs me anyway--even if it's stupid.

It's not bad to be sad, but... But being sad about this is way too selfish, it's a good thing! A really good thing, and I should be happy. I'm definitely not going to be sad about this, no way.

Just 'cause it's selfish doesn't mean it's bad... [screws up his face and squirms closer on his knees, opening his arms to offer a wet hug?]

[Hugs are appreciated, practically flinging into his arms because despite what she says, she's very upset about this.] It's silly... It's so silly of me.

[oof! Hugging her tightly in return, rubbing her back and kind of hoping she won't be upset about him getting her all wet.]

Well, it's okay to be silly sometimes.

[Oh she doesn't care about the wetness, she's just happy to be comforted. And he's sorta kind of family, in a way, which just helps]

[Shaking her head and pulling back a bit] Not like this it's not... I'm okay, I am. I promise Aren, I'll be alright.

[Aren likes their almost family connection and just wants all his family to be happy.

He smiles and taps her nose.] You'd better be alright, 'cause I'm the crybaby, not you! [not that he'll let go until she does.]

[Laughing] Is that so? Alright, I'll leave the crying to you.
