[Laying in bed, a book resting face down and open on her. She was reading it, but at this point the strain of trying to read the text is a bit much.

Brings her hand up to try and stifle (and fail) a fit of coughs, before slumping down further against the bed and closing her eyes.]

[Just silently reaching over to brush her hair out of her eyes, kneeling down at the bedside. He hates this, that much is obvious. They finally found each other, finally got back together, but now... It hurts to watch her suffer like this.]

Do you want anything?

[Opens her eyes to look at him and tries to give a reassuring, but weak, smile.]

I'm fine. [except for the whole dying thing.]

[Returns it, leaning over to place a light kiss on her forehead.]

[Reaches to take his hand, threading their fingers together.] I wish we could have done more.

[Gives the hand a squeeze, just lingering where he is.] Me too.

[Tries to shift a little closer to him, ultimately letting herself just fall back in place in the middle of the attempt and tilts her head his way instead.] I wanted... to get married. To have a house. [A small laugh that comes out more of a wheeze.] Maybe children if you could stand them.

[Gives another weak smile, moving to sit on the bed and carefully helps Alma sit up so she can lean against him.]

[Curls up as well as he can, tucking against him.] But it's not fair. I don't want to die yet.

[Wraps his arms around her, resting his head gently atop hers.] I know.

[Clings to his coat and buries her face, coughing against him.] I want--I want to stay with you.

Me too. [Rubs her back gently, trying to make her as comfortable as possible.]

[Sniffs, starting to cry quietly against him. She hates this, and maybe it's what she deserves for everything she did before, but she doesn't want to go.]

Shh... [Just keeps rubbing her back. He hates that he can't do anything more for her other than be here. He wishes with everything that it were him in her shoes right now, that he was the one dying instead.]
