Fledglings» Just as Yuu Kanda started to cope with his painful life in the Asian Branch's research facility, he and Alma receive unexpected visitors: the four young Crow trainees Link, Madarao, Tevak, and Tokusa. Alma is eager to make friends, and Yuu is pretty sure he hates them. Manipulated by authorities and placed in circumstances beyond their

Firstly, excellent characterization. All the thought you put into their backgrounds shines through and you really brought everyone to life. I love how you wrote the young Crows; there's not a whole lot about them in canon (yet?) so it's nice to see them fleshed out more here. Link and his baking enthusiasm are unbelievely cute haha. The first cookie instance caught me by surprise and I had a good chuckle. It's totally like him :).
Guh, I think what I love most about this is how much they care for one another. Everyone is suffering in some way (it's war after all), but they hold each other up and stick together. It's really touching and stuck me pretty good lol. The way you wrote the fic seemed to convey the sense of weight they share.
Also, I teared up at the point where Edgar started to help Alma remove the restraints (The painful decisions that the scientists had to make came across very strongly). That, and when Alma makes his way over to Yuu, and the massive hug bawww. Very emotional and you expressed it beautifully TT^TTb.
I haven't been feeling the recent D.Gray chapters so much anymore but this makes me want to go through them again with your fic strongly in mind. I really enjoyed the story and the perspective on all their history and relationships :). Excellent job and congrats again for finishing!!
P.S. The title is perfect!
Also, very glad to see the art half made it through as well! I briefly saw the postings at the time it hadn't been linked yet and had to make a ;o; face haha. The young Crows are adorable!

At some point my mind wandered off and started elaborating on how the Crows had Japanese names in a world where Japan as a country is no more. I have their backstories in my head and brought them out in this fic. I hope we learn more about them in canon! Madarao and Tevak could use some more character development.
I can't resist stories where certain characters look out for each other, even if they're cruel or indifferent towards others. Those little moments between Crow trainees were fun to write. And this was something darker and angstier than I usually write, haha. I wish I could have included more Edgar than the times he stands around worrying, since I like Bak's parents a lot.
The recent chapters haven't been my thing either (aside from most of the Kanda flashback, which I thought was pretty good). :( But I can't stop reading, because I tend to get into one thing very much and then stick with it. And I have to know what happens to my favorite characters! On the plus side, there was an adorable picture of the child Crows in the latest chapter. (Between that, the changing art style, and the picture from the artbook...I can't figure out their relative ages...)
I made a D: face when it was posted without accompanying art, but the artist submitted it in the end, so all is well. It's lovely, and I can't stop staring at the great expressions. <3
Thank you for commenting also. :) I always appreciate it!
