The 2011 Draco/Ginny Exchange

Nostalgia

We all of us got into fandom in different ways. Some of us are still brand new at loving Draco/Ginny, but for many of us, it's been years of fic and art and even six years of exchanges and prompts. We've seen it all - but we still love it!

So, for this year's theme, we're looking back. What made you love D/G in the first place? Is there a cliche that you love and will read over and over again? Think back and remember what it is that says Draco/Ginny to you - and what keeps it all fresh and new.

Rules

1. Give to get. As this is an exchange, in order to receive a story, you have to write one (or provide art, preferably above the level of stick figures). While things do happen sometimes, you're giving your word. Please try to keep it.

2. Communicate. We have to be able to get a hold of you in case something comes up. Whether or not you're on LJ (and accounts are free and easy to get, in case you were wondering), we need a valid email that you check regularly. We'd also like for you to write back if we send you something, even if it's to say "Sorry, life exploded, I haven't written a word." We're less likely to think you're a shmuck if we at least know what's going on - and no sob stories are necessary.

3. Know the limits. Stories should have a minimum word count of 1,500 and a maximum of about 20,000. We'd really like to keep it down to two posts per story, tops, so please test it out if you can. Also, please make sure the story you turn in is complete, although it's okay if it's wide open for a sequel.

4. Code your own. Please add html tags to your story as appropriate for bold, italics, etc. If you need help with this, read this tutorial before contacting a mod.

5. Editing. Learn it, live it, love it. You wouldn't give someone a broken gift, and a fic that hasn't been beta read is the equivalent. If you need a beta, try the FIA Forums to find one - but be discreet. You don't want your recipient to end up being your beta by accident.

6. Anonymous gift is anonymous. Don't post your fic elsewhere before the grand reveal - it would mean you're no longer anonymous and thus defeat the whole purpose.

7. Respect your age. If you're a minor, avoid the smutty stuff. If we know or find out you've violated this rule, you'll be summarily kicked out of the exchange.

8. We name and shame. Remember up there where we talked about communication and giving? If you sign up and then punk out, and we don't know anything about why, we'll put your name on the Wall of Shame and wish you a future filled with tears and icky pairings in bad fanfic. So, please, don't be a punk.

If it's your first time participating in an exchange, or you've never read it, we'd really recommend reading 'A Guide to Participating in Fic Exchanges, by Someone Who Knows' by r-becca. Knowing what good manners consists of helps you avoid having bad manners.

Here are the dates for this round:
April 27-May 4 - signups
May 6-9 - prompt picking
May 11 - assignments sent out
June 24 - fics due
June 27 - start posting

Once everybody has signed up, we'll post the prompts without anyone's name attached, and you'll comment to that post telling us your top five choices for what you'd like to write or draw. As soon as everybody who signed up has done that, we'll go back to our lair and collate like the dickens, until hopefully everybody has a prompt they can work with, and we'll send an email to each participant giving them their prompt.

If you end up with a prompt you hate - which shouldn't happen, but, you know, just in case - DON'T get on your LJ all, "OMG, this person's prompt is sooooooooooo bad!" That's just tacky. Instead, come talk to a mod and we'll work something out. Remember rule 2: Communicate!

As soon as you've got your prompt, start writing! You have a month and a half, but remember to leave yourself time to get a beta reader, and account for things like school or vacations or taking your dog to the vet. You can turn in your fic as soon as it's done, but if it's not in by midnight on June 24th, you will make us very sad and we will send you an email to that effect.

After June 24th, we'll start posting fics (and art) to the community so we can all enjoy! We'll space them out to prolong the enjoyment, and then once they're all posted we'll have a nomination period and then a voting period, so that we can celebrate the best of the awesome and give them awards.

The grand reveal will take place at the same time as the awards are given, and that's when you find out who you wrote for and who wrote for you. After the hugs and cheers die down, you can go ahead and post your story anywhere you want to, or link to the story from your own journal saying "I wrote this!" And then that'll be that, and we'll be done with another round of the exchange, woo!
