building collapse part 2

remember the photo from yesterday's post? here's what the building looks like now. you can see on the top of the building where a big chunk of the cornice is now missing.



i got yelled at for being where i was... even though it was across the street and there was no clear yellow tape around where i was walking. not to mention the fact that i wasn't the only person there, since a steady trickle of us kept going down that street to get to the train station. i tried pointing out to the cop that there was no clear direction telling us where to go or not go, but he lectured me on safety and how the building had already 'crushed four cars' and they didn't want anyone else to get hurt. i wanted to tell him that i didn't think bricks were known to fall across the road and onto the other side, and that besides i was farther away from the building than where he had been standing, so the bricks would hit him first, but i thought better of it and decided to just keep my mouth shut like everyone else he was lecturing. it's probably not a good idea to argue with a newark cop, even if they don't make sense.
