other than the cold that january 1st brought me, i am feeling fine in '09 (i heard someone say that in the metro in dc and it made me laugh)! things are trudging right along in all aspects of my life and it is a good feeling...albeit a bit nervewracking at times :)
christmas was really nice this year. i got a stack of books and a picture that my sister painted for me. my dad also pitched in with a surprise 'get you through student teaching bonus check'. i couldn't be more happy! adam came over in the evening and gave me a beautiful bulova watch so that i can keep myself on track during the school day. it is much needed! i just have to remember to WEAR it! i quit wearing a watch during college b/c i would get so obsessed with it. i would look at it about every two minutes and my day would take YEARS! hopefully i will be too busy with student teaching to look at it THAT much!
our trip to washington dc was fabulous. we had such a good time. i was really sad when we had to come back home! we visited all of the following places in three days:
smithsonian natural history museum
smithsonian american history museum
smithsonian air and space museum
the national zoo
the international spy museum
the library of congress
the folger shakespeare library
the holocaust museum
and all of the monuments
we made it to everything that we wanted to see but for the national archives. the line was about an hour long to see three documents. we figured we could live without it! we spent our days wandering museums and finding places to eat. we went to old ebbitt grill for new year's dinner. it is a really nice place just down the street from the white house. we ate and drank and then had dessert! mmmm, best bread pudding i've ever had! then we went to a bar called the dubliner where three older irish gentlemenn played us into the new year with guinness soaked irish sing-a-longs. it was really a great trip.
since we've been back i have been working on recovering from a cold that just won't go away. i spent all day sunday in bed hoping that would help. it didn't all that much. oh well. i'm still kicking up a good cough and have stuffy sinuses. ugh.
i completed the paperwork for my leave of abscense yesterday. even the HR director said, 'can you believe they approved this!?' i am so blessed to have my most fabulous boss looking after me and God providing all of the way. it is truly amazing the wonderful things that have happened to me over the past two years. i will start student teaching on january 20th and will be coming back to work on april 20th. three whole months of no worries for student teaching!
that's the past few weeks in a nutshell. the holidays were a little crazy this year so it's all kind of a blur!
i hope this new year finds everyone happy and looking forward to great things!
