I'm curious now. Is there a reason, canonical or otherwise, why the Terrorcons have nightmarish creatures as alt-modes?

I've never seen a reason in canon, or even in fanon simply because they're such secondary characters. I'm probably veering off IDW canon because they're not drawn with monstrous alt modes. You never even see their alt modes, so it's up in the air as to what they transform into. The Predacons get the same treatment - they can't exactly represent Earth animals 100,000 plus years before coming to Earth.

In my fics, they won't have those alt modes for awhile, until well after leaving Cybertron. At that point both sides have had more exposure to other planets and races, but taking on an organic-looking alt mode is still downright bizarre. The Monsterbots are the Autobot side of that coin. It's a good way to disturb or frighten one's opponent, which was what I was hoping to get across in this fic. The Terrorcons are already a pack of rejects (the Predacons showed them up a long time ago), so they might as well go the full mile and look the part.
