Day 13

Nov 13, 2010 22:12

I had a huge list of things to do today and only got a fraction of them done. It was starting to make me crazy, because I knew EXACTLY what I wanted to draw today, and wouldn't let myself sit down and do it until the Important Stuff was done. Thankfully I have food to eat for the week and clean laundry!

Today's drawing is, with luck, the start of a bit of a project. I like the way it's turning out, and would like to polish it up and finish it, hopefully color it. Or coerce someone else into coloring it for me. I used myself as a reference to get Kerrigan's expression right because I'm still terrible at free-handing things. 'Reference', because good heavens I don't look like that at all. Also drawing Kerrigan's 'hair' makes me want to scream.

This is post-Wings of Liberty Kerrigan. It's up in the air how connected she remains to the Swarm after getting de-zergified. Until Heart of the Swarm comes out, we're stuck speculating and, like me, inventing head canon that will be thrown out the window the moment the expansion is released. Good times!

HEAD CANON TIME: Following the Brood War, Kerrigan did away with the Cerebrates and the way in which the controlled portions of the Swarm. She couldn't have broods going bonkers every time one of the Cerebrates accidentally bumped into a Dark Templar. The Queens were to be the next evolutionary step in the hierarchy of the Swarm, and Kerrigan manipulated and mutated them into what they are now. The Queens are probably no more or less mindlessly loyal than the Cerebrates, but can operate independently from one another and Kerrigan, when needed. Should anything happen to their beloved Queen of Blades, they would be somewhat directionless, but they would be able to keep the broods in check. No mindless rampaging and killing everything, including each other, in their path.

So, Kerrigan must remain alive so that the Zerg don't get twisted into the control of the Dark Voice. Jimmy sort of pulled that off, making her human, although she, for mysterious reasons, still has her psionic appendages. Sarah Kerrigan was a powerful psi before getting infested into the Queen of Blades. So, those appendages will probably allow her to communicate with, and regain control of, her Swarm.

This drawing is basically Kerrigan finding out that connection still exists, by drawing out one of her Queens.

For the curious (haha), this is the Zerg Queen in the game. She acts as your adviser, and lets you know what's up, like if you're under attack, low on resources, or some asshole is about to nuke your base. Queens are also a unit in the game, that are essential to actually, you know, winning. They are pretty radical.
