In which Darcy gives Georgie the Talk. And you thought you'd never see the day...

Darcy: Do you know why chaperones are necessary, Georgiana?

Georgiana: *softly* Yes.

Darcy: I'm not sure you do. Why?

Georgiana: To--to--*blushes*

Darcy: *amused smile* Yes?

Georgiana: To make sure a courting couple d-does n-not engage in--inappropriate behavior?

Darcy: Such as?

Georgiana: ...Things?

Darcy: *folds his arms, quite amused* What sort of things?

Georgiana: *stubbornly* I do not know. *folds her arms in a similar fashion* Y-you tell me, Brother.

Darcy: *has a seat* The words you're looking for, Georgiana, are "sexual intercourse".

Georgiana: ...*jaw drops*

Georgiana: We would never--never--!

Darcy: Which leads to pregnancies outside of marriage, and that is what crushes a young lady's character.

Darcy: Don't tell me you would never, Georgiana, you don't even know what it is.

Georgiana: *stiffly* Y-yes, I do.

Darcy: Oh? *cocks an eyebrow*

Georgiana: It is how a man and woman procreate children.

Darcy: True, yes. But that's hardly all.

Darcy: There are three things a man may seek dishonestly when courting a woman.

Darcy: He may have designs on her money or her position, as Wickham did, or he may have designs on her virginity.

Georgiana: *affronted* Peter d-does not want any of that, William.

Darcy: ... he is male, Georgiana.

Darcy: All men desire sex.

Darcy: The reason for a chaperone, Georgiana, is because while some hugs and chaste kisses may be quite safe, the more kisses and the further those kisses get from chastity *serious look* the stronger are the urges, on both sides, until there is a point at which the desire cannot be resisted.

Darcy: Men are typically more easily overpowered by desire than women, which is what leads to rapes. Mostly among the country folk, but you should never be decieved that the upper classes are exempt from such despicable behavior.

Georgiana: T-to be honest, Brother, I am too frightened of...of what you speak...t-to let it progress any further. A-and Peter respects me enough to keep it chaste.

Darcy: *bemused* Frightened?

Georgiana: *BLUSH* Aye.

Darcy: Why, what in the world is there to fear, Georgiana? Once you're married, it's natural enough. My only concern is preventing the occurence before the marriage.

Georgiana: It will not happen, Brother.

Darcy: *highly amused* What, not even once you're married? Whyever not?

Georgiana: Because--well, b-because it's frightening and unpleasant.

Darcy: *frowns* And who has told you that? Cosette?

Georgiana: *shakes her head* Nobody. But I kn-now enough about it. I know that it is unpleasant for the lady.

Darcy: If it is unpleasant for the lady, then the husband is a scoundrel! *stands up, infuriated at the thought*

Darcy: Georgiana. *calms himself, taking her hand* Listen to me. Within the bounds of marriage and love, there is no greater pleasure a man and woman can share. It is ecstasy for the lady, with a husband who truly loves her and cares for her happiness.

Georgiana: *blinks*

Georgiana: It is?

Darcy: *amused smile* Yes, Georgiana. It is.

Georgiana: ...Oh.

Georgiana: ...But is it not very frightening?

Darcy: Ah, hem. *slight smile, cheeks slightly red* You know the feeling you get when your kisses are not quite chaste? A bit warm and tingly?

Georgiana: ...Oh... Y-yes?

Darcy: Imagine that, only much, much more.

Georgiana: *wide-eyed*

Georgiana: I do not think I am able.

Darcy: *laughs* That, Georgiana, is the reason one needs chaperones.

Georgiana: I did not think th-that had anything t-to do with--does that make me wanton?

Darcy: *snorts and starts laughing at that* Georgiana.

Georgiana: *piiiiiiiiink*

Darcy: No, Georgie, it makes you naive.

Georgiana: Is that bad?

Darcy: It can be. It also means you've been leading him on, if you've been encouraging such feelings. Remember what I said? The more you exchange such kisses, the stronger the feelings and desires will get.

Darcy: Once you are married, you should indulge in such kisses, and let them lead to their natural conclusion.

Darcy: Until then, it would be best if you kept your lips to yourself.

Georgiana: *bites them, self-consciously*

Georgiana: I o-only wanted to hold him.

Darcy: I would prefer if you saved the cuddling until you were at least engaged.

Darcy: And keep your kisses off his lips until the marriage.

Georgiana: Th-then what are we supposed to do? Stare at each other?

Georgiana: *softly* A-and what if he never proposes?

Darcy: ... Georgiana, if your relationship is based off of nothing more than exchanging kisses, it is not love, it is lust.

Darcy: You can CONVERSE.

Georgiana: Y-yes, and we do that plenty!

Darcy: He'll propose soon enough if you tell him you can't kiss him unless you are married.

Georgiana: ...*never thought of that*

Georgiana: ...S-so...you would not mind...i-if he married me?

Darcy: Try it. It's good practice for your wifely wheedling.

Darcy: At this point, I would be vastly relieved.

Georgiana: Do you like him? Truly?

Darcy: He'll suffice. I'll trust your judgement. You're the one who loves him. *ruffles her hair*

Georgiana: *teasingly* I s-suppose that is the best I can expect from you.

Darcy: Most likely. You'll have the wedding at Pemberley, I hope?

Georgiana: *blinks* I do not know.

Georgiana: W-we are not even engaged yet, William.

Darcy: Well, first you'd better get that proposal, then. *amused smile*

Darcy: What are you waiting for? Shoo. *waves a hand at her* Go entrap the poor man.

Georgiana: ...*moves to leave, but then turns around again and gives him a hug*

Darcy: *hugs her back, spinning her around* My little Georgiana.

Georgiana: N-not so little anymore, I should hope.

Darcy: Maybe not. *warm smile*

Georgiana: *kisses his cheek*

Darcy: Are you going or not? Don't tempt me to talk you out of the whole marriage thing after all. You could always join a convent instead.

Georgiana: Fitzwilliam Darcy! *gives him another kiss before racing off*

georgiana darcy, darcy
