Non-government funded housing

THIS IS YOUR CATCH, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!

Schwarzalbenheim has a total of three floors and twelve apartments. Each apartment has three bedrooms, one bath, a full kitchen and dining/living area. These apartments are in poor to fair condition, on par with what one finds in Midgard and Niflheim. They do not come furnished! You'll have to furnish it yourself. In order to furnish with a bedroom set, 1 couch, dining table and necessary accessories, expect to pay a total of 250 credits (75 for bedroom set and 175 for the rest of the furnishings.) These are prices on the legal market, and may or may not include cookware (which is something you have to purchase for your government funded apartment.) If you are caught profit sharing from your old apartment, you will be fined and/or have jail time!

The rent for one apartment is 150 credits + 25% tax = 187 credits per month.

Asgard is a cluster of middle class apartments. They are definitely in better shape than BUILDING ONE and the layout is the same. Each apartment has its own private entrance and exit, marked by concrete stair cases. The side walls are solid, but are still open to the elements on the 'platforms.' (If you've ever been to Parris Island, these are the kind of stairs I'm talking about.) The majority of Veles, or the middle class, reside in apartments like these.

The rent for one apartment is 300 credits + 25% tax = 375 c. per month.

The SINGLE FAMILY HOME (please pardon house Three's cut off) is a set of row houses. There are three on this block and each home has its own private entrance for each home. This home holds four bedrooms and one and a half baths. These houses are high quality and are equivalent to officers' tenements.

Rent for a single family home is 600 c. + 25% tax = 750 c. per month.

NOTE: You can only have one person per bedroom in each apartment or single family home! The only way the government will allow more than one person per bedroom is if they are a married couple, a family such as parent/child (and then, only if the child is under 14), or siblings of the same sex. Any applications that have more persons listed than bedrooms will be rejected. If it is found out later that more persons are living in an apartment than is coded to contain that number, the 'freeloaders' will be tossed out. Upon the second infraction, all inhabitants of said apartment will be removed.

The person applying for non-government housing will have to find their own roommates prior to application and must show that they will be able to cover the rent and taxes. If a person can cover the housing all by themselves (after food and sundries,) excellent! But for nearly everyone, they will need a roommate in order to live somewhere else. If people have been amassing funds for such a move, that's fine, but in 3-4 months they'll be looking for someone to help pay rent.

For example! JoJo gets paid 40 credits weekly, so his monthly intake is 120 credits. Even with that amount, he'll need to get a roommate for a poor quality apartment.

On the other side of the scale, Dr. Smith receives 100 credits weekly (400 c.) He can live on his own in a poor quality apartment or a middle class apartment, but must have a roommate for a single family home.

For ease of game play, no there are no other apartments/housing available with less rooms and therefore less rent. What you see is what you get. In terms of people living elsewhere (aka, above their business fronts,) there is a 50% tax on all income earned to be allowed to live in that place.

Players can get a second job to fund their apartments, please go to the jobs listing for further information.

So how will all of this work out?

On the first of every game month, there will be a post where 'renters' must go and reply in order to verify that they have paid their rent. This will be held much like Rations, where you will need to bring your ID. Only one person (the one who applied for housing) is needed to pay for rent. If you miss this post, your character will be warned with a note on your door, fining you for 100 credits on top of the rent you owe. The only time this will be waived is if the character is on hiatus, and if the character is seen on hiatus in order to avoid this check, housing will be lost. If the character is dropped, the other characters in that housing unit will have one in game month to re-organize and find another roommate (if necessary) or they will return to government funded housing.

If rent is not paid for two months, all tenants will be bodily removed, placed back into government housing (Midgard or Nifleheim) and all of their assets left in the apartment will be liquidated in order to pay off their debt. They will not be able to apply for housing again until the debt is cleared. If it happens again, the character will not be able to apply for non-government housing. This rule will apply to all characters living in that apartment, regardless of who applied for the housing. (Talk about accountability, huh?)

The opportunity to apply for non-government housing will be offered September 15, December 15, March 15, and June 15th.
