False confessions shown to be rather common

There have been several cases where people have been known to confess
to crimes it was later learned they could not possibly have committed.
It has now been shown that this phenomenon is potentially
more common than had been previously thought. This hardly
proves that similar results would hold if something like a murder
confession were on the line. Still the indications that people
actually believed in their false guilt should give pause.
