This year marks the 30th anniversary of Will Crowther sending the source of a caving simulation that he had turned into a game for his kids to Don Woods. The result was the classic version of the game "Adventure". Someone has done a
ton of work tracing down the
original source code and mapping the geography of the game to the real cave in Kentucky that inspired Crowther. This game has insinuated itself into our culture in a myriad of little ways such as "xyzzy" and "a maze of twisty little passages". This is definitely worth checking out.
