rat tales

So this morning I was sitting reading the paper with my rat. She was super hyper when I went down to see her so I decided to take her out and let her climb around on me a bit; her favorite out-cage activity. My cat, not noticing, jumps up next to me on the couch hoping for scritchings and Jezzi (the rat) ever so curious, leans over to sniff this strange new arrival. My cat turns to look at her and for a moment they are nose to nose studying each other. You'd think it would be Jezzi who'd freak out, but no, my cat's eyes get all huge and she runs away in terror. The other cat had noticed her a couple times, but doesn't seem too interested.
I'm not really that worried about my cats eating my rat. =)

Now that Jezzi and I are becoming friends, she's finally starting to actually play with me. Just a week ago she was too afraid to go near my hand. Most of the time she's content to explore whatever area she's in and climb in and out of my clothes though. Her favorite game seems to be me giving her a treat, her running back into her cage to put it in a corner, and then running out for another (which is usually the same one I took back while she wasn't looking because she could do this forever) She gets so excited and it seems like she's trying to see how fast she can get another treat! I put the treat in different places each time. The game usually ends when I get tired of it. She also enjoys playing tag but gets distracted easily and runs off to look at something else. I'm trying to figure out more games but she doesn't like most that I try with her.
I still think she needs another rattie companion though. She looks so sad when I put her back in her cage.
