Faux Finishes

Yesterday at a yard sale I scored a cheap dresser to use on the third floor in my super-extended-closet / emergency-spare-bedroom. The dresser is real wood, but older cheap wood; not worth stripping and refinishing. (It may *always* have been a painted piece.) It's currently painted an extremely blah (and beat-up) light beige-ish pink shade. I think I'm just going to give it some kind of new paint job - perhaps even try my hand at a faux finish.

I'm planning red-and-gold brocade curtains and bedspread. There's an old beat up unfinished pine floor.

What sorts of faux finishes do people like?
