Boots
So I bought these boots today:
I had a nice experience at the store, was able to get something good with little fuss (I even got the right size the first time). Red Wing seems to have good lifetime support of their products, and the price was very good for that level of guarantee/replacement/service/&c, as well as being manufactured in the USA. I know some people have Red Wings that last for 8, 10 years ... Even if I wear mine out faster than that, in 2.5 years I feel that I will have broken even over the expense and hassle of finding and buying new cheap work boots every ~15 months.
And the traffic on the way to the south hills wasn't particularly bad, and I even had a nice time because I took my husband with me and we made several productive shopping stops and had lunch together in air-conditioned comfort. :-)
