I really need to do a proper update, but in the meantime I want to share that I have tried four new foods over the past weekend.

1) Broccoli. I know. I know I should have been eating broccoli a long time ago. But until recently I've been very reluctant to try any food I thought even might taste bad. But potatoes, tomatoes and iceburg lettuce don't constitute a healthy variety of vegetables, so I have to just suck it up and start trying new things.

I've had broccoli before in tiny bits in soups but never stuck a piece in my mouth all by itself. I added it to my stir fry today and hurrah for me, it's not bad. I'll probably start adding some to my salads.

2) Sugar snap peas. See above re: broccoli.

3) Oatmeal. I know you're probably wondering how I could never have had oatmeal, but... I just haven't. It looked gross. And it turns out, it feels gross. The taste wasn't so bad, but I didn't like the texture at all (which Jason predicted, so score one for him.) I'll have to stick with pasta and cereal for my whole grains.

4) Hummus. This was good. It was roasted garlic flavor and when I finish with the tub I have now I'm gonna attempt to make my own. I'm excited because hummus has gotta be better, health-wise, as a spread or dip than mayonnaise or sour cream. Yay!

I had an awesome birthday, outside of the new food additions. Will write an entry later.

operation: get healthy dammit!
