This post? Hetalia from A to Z.

Aug 13, 2010 02:23

I'll start off with a survey I found somewhere, possibly on a FanFiction profile. Heck, that's where I mostly find stuff like this. God, I'm such a hoe for surveys and memes... XD

1) Who is your favorite country/countries?
Russia, America, England, Switzerland, North Italy, Lithuania...

2) Do you have a country/country pairing? If so, which one?
Sure do! RussiaxAmerica (OTP), FrancexEngland, SwedenxFinland, AustriaxSwitzerland, GermanyxNorth Italy, AmericaxEngland, Germancest (PrussiaxGermany), RussiaxPrussia...

3) Hetalia yaoi or hentai?
Yaoi is fine.

4) Ever cosplayed Hetalia characters?
No, I'd look terrible. I'll leave that to good-looking people.

5) If you could pick one hair color for ALL of the countries to have, what would it be?
Why do such a thing? I like variety, it would be boring if they all had the same hair color...

6) Have you ever felt you should be in one of the countries because your personality matches theirs? If so, which one?
Hmm... that's really hard to say, but I'd say America. And Russia, in a way.

7) Austria/Hungary or Prussia/Hungary?
AustriaxHungary.

8) UK/France or UK/US?
Both, though I prefer FrancexEngland because of my favorite pairings. ;)

9) Which war era is your favorite?
WW2 and the Cold War.

10) Any flaws in ONE (quote: one) of the countries you'd like to rant about?
No, not really.

11) Any favorite glasses country? (IE: Specs, Git, and Canada. (Who?))
America. (I'm presuming he's the git.)

12) Your favorite of the BFT?
Um... France. XD

13) Super mega Hetalia orgy: Yes or No?
O_O That would be... different, but yeah, I'd give it a shot just for the heck of it.

14) Have you seen all of the Hetalia episodes so far?
You betcha!

15) How 'bout them web comics/manga?
Most of it. (I watched the anime before I read the manga.)

16) America: ADD or No?
I'm not good at judging such things, but I'll say no.

17) Do you believe FUNimation is going to kill everyone one day because of the fact that no one likes the horrible Hetalia dub they might make?
Well, they are making it... This question is a rather radically phrased, though. I think that everyone should decide for themselves if they'll give the English dub a shot, and they don't like it, they should just avoid it. Personally, I'm 99.9% sure that I'll stick with the Japanese version because Russia's dub voice bothers me... or perhaps I just need to see a longer clip instead of the preview. >.<

18) Pro-Mexico is canon or Anti-Mexico is canon?
Heck if I know. Um... I hope I don't offend anyone by saying this, but quite frankly, I'm happy with the countries we have at the moment, so I don't really care all that much... ^^;

19) Prussia: conceited, bastardly, annoying or funny?
Why isn't awesome one of the words? If I'd have to choose one of the others, though, I'd go with funny.

20) Who's Canada?
Because I'm boring, here's a bland answer: he's America's brother.

21) Favorite Hetalian's eyes? State the country's name, the eye color and what you specifically like about those eyes.
Russia, violet eyes... It's just such a lovely color that adds quite a bit to his cuteness. ^_^ As soon as I see Russia, I'm drawn to those eyes, and then I'm hardly able to tear my eyes away from them... ♥♥♥

22) Which country would be the best cross-dresser?
Poland, hands down.

23) France: Better naked or clothed?
Because I'm rather prude, I say clothed. Nakedness should always be censored for me. :)

24) Which country would be the best OOC? Who and how?
Usually, I'd really like to see the really serious guys be OOC, so I'll say Sweden.

25) Any favorite alliances you like? (IE: BFT, UK/US/France/Russia during WW2, Germany/Italy/Japan)
England/America/France/Russia during WW2. (The Power Rangers segment of the drama CD was soooo hilarious...! XD)

26) Do you write Hetalia fanfiction?
Yes. Two oneshots, one (paused) multi-chapter fic. Working on another oneshot and a Christmas fic and an amusement park fic, both of which could be multi-chaptered.

27) Fluff or sex?
Fluff all the way! *is a passionate fluffeteer*

28) Do your parents know about Hetalia?
Against their will, they do (kinda), but I can't help fangirling about it.

29) Rant about your least favorite character here. State reasons why you hate them and how they should be "bettered".
That's tough, but I'll say... China. *prepares to get shot* I mean, I honestly am not keen on seeing him with Russia (*points to OTP*), and he's just... well, there. He's more of a background character for me. I have no concrete suggestions as to how he should be "bettered", but I'd definitely vote for him to have a pretty much canon relationship akin to Germany and Italy's, but not with Russia. You know what? He can marry Shinatty-chan, he'd like that. :D

30) Favorite version of Marukaite Chikyuu so far?
Russia's, because I love that guy to pieces, so hearing him sing was a dream come true.

31) Have you ever got someone else hooked on Hetalia?
No, but my peers don't care much for manga/anime to begin with, so it'd be pointless. Then again, I told a new fan of my YGO stories about it, and she said she'd give it a shot. :) I'm just trying to meet people who already like it.

32) Do you like to draw/write about Hetalia?
Yes [write]. (I can't draw at all.)

33) Ever made countries into the Hetalia personas during history to make it a hell of a lot more interesting?
I don't have history lessons anymore, but I do look at international news a little differently now.

34) Has Hetalia affected your life and grades?
Life? Yes. Grades? Even though I no longer have history, I'd still have to say yes because I kept procrastinating my studying (and will probably continue to do so next semester, lol!).

35) Is your mind blown/broken thanks to Hetalia?
Yes to blown (and I'm enjoying it), but broken? No. My Immortal is responsible for that.

36) Do you think England reads dirty romance novels in his free time?
Sure, why not?

37) Do you like how they've portrayed your country?
Yes, but I'd still like to know exactly why the "trigger-happy" bit got associated with Switzerland.

38) Favorite character song?
This is a rather unfair question because I am still quite unfamiliar with character songs, but for now, I'm going to say "Pechka - Light My Heart" (Russia's second character song).

39) Do you feel awkward for being in love with a country?
I thought I might, but I'm not. ♥hearts Russia♥

40) Do you have a Hetalia OC?
No, I've given up on OCs a long time ago (with the possible exception of a minor character... really minor, y'know).

41) Looking back at some of your answers, do you think Hetalia has taken over your life?
Yes, and I'd like to thank Himaruya for that! ^___^

I wish my answers were as creative and funny as those of some other people, but alas, they're not because like I said, I'm kinda boring like that. It was somewhat the same thing when I played a drinking game with friends a couple of years ago: you rolled dice and made a claim as to how many points they added up to. You could lie or tell the truth, and if you were honest and someone guessed that, you had to drink a shot. And if they were wrong, I think you just passed the dice on. Not sure if the guesser had to drink a shot for being wrong, but can you blame me? I mean, we had barely gotten started, and I got drunk quickly because we drank friggin' Tequila, I hadn't eaten squat that evening and it was my first time getting in touch with high-proof alcohol XD But what I'm trying to get at was that I was honest most of the time, and my friends eventually said that I should start lying, that my honesty was boring. When I think back on that game, I can't help but laugh because man, I was such a moron back then with such a huge, unrequited crush... *sigh*

Er... moving on!

Just a day or two ago, we finally told some jokes again at the dinner table (speaking of them; I haven't heard many good jokes recently, it's a shame), and I took offense to one of them. Here's how it went:

Dad: "What happens when the dumbest man in Switzerland goes to Austria?"

Mom, my bro and I: "Dunno... no idea... what's the answer?" [I was already thinking about Hetalia at this point, of course.]

Dad: "The IQ of both countries rises."

Mom cracked up right away, and my bro chuckled, but at first I didn't get it, so I didn't laugh. Eventually, they explained it to me, and lemme tell you, I was not happy. All I could see in my mind was an image of Roderich, and to imagine that the dumbest man in Switzerland is smarter than Austrians just sounded plain wrong to me. Surprisingly enough, even my bro said that he didn't necessarily think it was funny either, albeit for other reasons than me, of course. Such a dumb joke...

Then again, the other joke wasn't much better either, but to be honest, I've always been more likely to make fun of Italians instead of Austrians because our geography teacher in junior high taught us a lot about Italian stereotypes, illustrating them with funny little stories, so yeah... But in this case as well, Hetalia dominated my mind, and my family got a taste of it, even though they didn't understand it:

Mom: "Why are Italians [men] so short?"

Me: "Because Russian hands are slowing down their growth." *sniggers* [Latviaaaaaaaaaaa! ...Sorry, I just had to say that! XD]

Others: *stare at me, nonplussed*

Bro: "What the hell are you talking about?"

Me: "Oh, nothing... enlighten us, Mom."

Mom: *stares at me strangely for another moment before answering* "Because their mothers told them that once they're grown up, they have to go to work."

Get it? It works a bit better in German, if you ask me, but perhaps this translation wasn't all that bad. I actually thought this joke was quite funny, but I couldn't laugh about the other one. Is that paradox? Ah well, whatevs... XD

I'm in the process of watching the new WW2 DVDs I bought for myself just recently: "Hiter's Life", "The big campaigns of the Second World War" ["Blitzkrieg" in the West", "War at the Arctic Circle", "German Africa corps", "Operation Barbarossa"], "The SS - A warning of history" and "The Second World War - The eastern front".

Why am I bringing this up? Well, the thing is, as much as I love Hetalia and the light-hearted take it has on history, I think it's important that people remember the terrible crimes that were actually committed in the World Wars themselves, before and after as well. Especially World War 2. I don't know how much is taught about it in other school systems, but we got to see lots of documentary movies - and I still remember that one of my classmates couldn't bear to watch certain parts of a film about the concentration camps and the Jews.

I think it's great than an anime/manga has managed to make people interested in history, but especially in the light of World War 2, I hope they won't forget the real picture, or that they'll educate themselves about that. I'm not saying that this goes for all Hetalia fans, not at all, but sometimes I'm almost, well, "concerned" about rabid fangirls who might romanticize those years too much because they're so caught up in Hetalia...

World War 2 has always fascinated me, even long before Hetalia. But aside from that wonderful anime and the few original videos of that time that are in color, World War 2 will always be like a period in which the world was black and white for me. What happened back then was just so terrible, and on both sides, the civilians suffered so much from the barbaric acts of the military - I'm thinking in particular about the Nazis and the Red Army as I say this. I think we can all be glad that we didn't live during that time...
The documentary about the SS is really scary shit, I can tell you that (they show the exposed brain of a concentration camp victim o.O). I wonder what kind of documentaries they have on that topic in the States or the UK... By the way, has anyone who reads this ever seen "Downfall" yet? [German title: "Der Untergang"] The famous scene (an actual Internet meme, it seems) of Hitler's outburst of fury might be something you're already familiar with, but... when it's in its real context, it's quite different to watch. The movie itself is a brilliant portrayal about the last days of Hitler in the Fuehrer's bunker, and I think Bruno Ganz (a Swiss actor) did an absolutely great job of playing Hitler. It's a very long movie, but it never bores me. Some things were made up, and there are some factual errors (thanks, Wikipedia), but it's mostly based on the autobiography of Hitler's secretary and several non-fiction books. I recommend watching this movie - and if you're not as afraid of blood as I am, you might get a tad bit more out of it than me (I'm sorry, but I'm just unable to watch a doctor who's about to amputate a wounded soldier's leg).

On a lighter note to end this entry, I'm almost done cleaning up my room, and then my Mom will help me rearrange some things on my walls so I'll finally be able to hang up my flags of America, Russia, the UK and Switzerland. I'll take a picture once the job is done! :) (Can you guess which flag(s) will be above my bed?)

dude not funny, serious biz, hetalia, meme
