Today was the first day of exploring Austria outside of Maria Alm where we are staying. We got up early (well 7:45 is early for me). And drove two hours to Innsbruck which has been coined "the olympic city with the golden roof."
The first thing we passed was this spire built to celebrate the successful defense of the city from Bavarian Invaders:
Then we walked towards the golden roof, which as if part of a marketing scheme was next to the "golden arches" (McDonalds):
Which is actually more fitting than one would think since the golden roof is not actually gold but copper...
Then we climbed to the top of the Town Tower:

After the tower we went inside the museum in the building with the golden roof. Most of it was dedicated to the life of Emperor Maxmillian...very interesting and well done-I'd recommend it. What was interesting for me was how he marketed himself, successfully making himself popular and well known for centuries...even though days before he died he was turned away from Innsbruck by the Innkeepers because he hadn't paid his bill from the last time.
Then we went to the Dome of St. Jakob:
There was a lot you couldn't do there:
but at least i could take pictures of the inside:
Then we continued to the Hofburg palace:
This was probably the most impressive room:
Then we saw the triumphant arch. You can see the olympic ski jump through it:
Last view of Innsbruck:
Hopefully we will see the fortress on the way home.
Until next time...
Update:
The fortress was neat, we only saw the outside and the grounds though because it was closed.
