People never failed to be interesting; that much Devon knew for sure.
But it wasn't the things they did in front of your face-- oh, no. It was the things people did when they thought no one was watching them. Perfect example; He'd been in the quad for no more than five minutes before a girl had dropped her money bag. She hadn't noticed, and continued down the cobblestone path she was walking on. Someone else had seen her drop it, scooped up the sack, and headed after the girl. Just when Devon thought he would do the right thing, the guy slipped a few galleons out for himself, then turned the sack over to the thankful girl, who gave him a few galleons more for being so honest.
It had all happened too fast for Devon to do a thing about it, but he wasn't the only person who'd seen it, either. No one had warned her.
"Bleeding gits, the lot of them," he mumbled to himself, jogging up the stairs to the student center. Yanking the door open, Devon stepped aside, holding it ajar for the person behind him to go first, "After you."
