Tell them about your allergy if you know which kind of anaesthesia that hurts you. My friend got hers removed surgically a few weeks ago and she's just fine. Take a few painkillers before going into the surgery and tell if you'd like call them and tell them what you can't take. I don't know about in the US, but in Denmark they are obligated to listen to you and ask you stuff like this. You've had a bad experience and there's a history in your family, so chances are that you're allergic and if you're not - well let's not take the chance. Tell them what happened during your knee surgery and explain what happened to your cousin. They'll know what to do!
The reason they need to remove it surgically and not just pull it out like they usually do is because wisdom teeth are always weird. Their roots are unpredictable and they don't look like all other teeth. Also if it's in the upper jaw they might reach close to the sinuses and when you pull it out you might pull out bone with it. So they remove it surgically to avoid complications. It's a fairly simple surgery compared to others.
So don't be worried honey! Take a deep breath, but if you're very worried, call them and tell them! Call them and tell them about your allergy and call them and tell them that you're scared. They can do something about it and treat you carefully if you're scared. I'm sure they're nice to you! Dentists don't really enjoy inflicting pain and fear in people! We're humans who do like to be nice too! Just try to remember those things! I know it can be difficult.
I took a painkiller before going there and they gave me one before too... both of them was really really nice, the dentist was craking jokes XD LOL hard to laugh with my mouth half frozen... I was drooling like crazy lol I had to fill like 4 sheets and we wrote about the allergy on it. it's when we sleep but the dentist didn't took chance and gave me another kind of injection ... after 5 injections I was glad he stop LOL he said since he inject with something not to powerful, he need to make sure it's really numb XD
now for today I can only eat pudding, jello, broth and weird stuff like that... I wish I knew I wasn't able to eat real food... my little banana/chocolate toast from my breakfast wasn't to much LOL
the feeling start to coming back slowly in my mouth... I don't like that XD but I don't want to take the painkiller to fast XD she told me I couldn't work with those painkillers... I can't stop... I'll have to ask my boss to shake me once in a while tomorrow so I won't fall in sleep LOL
thanks again for your comment =D I was little bit more happy about going there after I read it =D
