FIC: the matter of Britten

Jul 27, 2010 04:06

Silly little thing I wrote for speak_me_fair, who could do with more silliness in her life. Richard/Robbie, academic!AU, nothing objectionable unless you really like Debussy. (I like Debussy. Richard doesn't!)

'You know how you can tell I love you?' Richard says, out of nowhere. )

au: crescive in his faculty, fic: shakespeare: richard ii

::snort:: Oh, Richard. This is adorable, and I do love the foreshadowing of the Threesome of Doom.

It is really amazing how much mileage it's possible to get out of Richard assuming his preferences apply to everyone. ;)

The opera jokes me me so damn happy.

(And I like Debussy, but not that opera, good god.)

I have been waiting to get the "Starry Vere" line into a fic in this universe for BASICALLY FOREVER. ;)

The message I am getting from this is 'Robbie is adorable and charming and has saintly patience.' ^_~ Nicely done!

Oh, this is fantastic, and I swear (bar Robbie's solution to making the conversation STOP THANK YOU) I have overheard very similar ones....

"I'm not making fun of Britten. I'm making fun of you."

WELL QUITE.

And Richard, king of non-communication, complaining about 'why don't they communicate, and then they could have a threesome or something?' is irony to the nth degree.

Also, hee, 'Starry Vere'. Someone had to say it, didn't they?

This universe is basically powered by dramatic irony generated by Richard's cluelessness! ;)

(And, as I told Mith, I have been waiting for an opening for the Starry Vere reference for basically forever.)
