fuckin people on this planet will never cease to amaze me with their stupidity. i still cant believe theres countries who prefer to be totally held back in all ways...social,technological,economical...all because they dont have the balls to fight for what they believe. i dunno maybe i underestimate fear? i just wish i was as bulletproof as i believe myself to be..id do more than just think about how fucked these places are.

Asian Country,bordered by turkmenistan,tajikstan,and kazakhstan, afghanistan, and Kyrgyzstan. all once part of the soviet union.
total area:172,742 square miles (roughly the size of the state of california)
Population:26,093,000 (roughly the population of the state of texas)
capital:Tashkent
Languages:Uzbek,russian,tajik,and kazakh
Religions:Sunni Muslim, Russian Orthodox
currency:uzbek som (of which 1 american dollar = 115.9 uzbek soms and this was an estimate in 2003)

Russia conquered Uzbekistan in the late 19th century. Stiff resistance to the Red Army after World War I was eventually suppressed and a socialist republic set up in 1924. During the Soviet era, intensive production of "white gold" (cotton) and grain led to overuse of agrochemicals and the depletion of water supplies, which have left the land poisoned and the Aral Sea and certain rivers half dry. Independent since 1991, the country seeks to gradually lessen its dependence on agriculture while developing its mineral and petroleum reserves. Current concerns include terrorism by Islamic militants, economic stagnation, and the curtailment of human rights and democratization.
