My 'still being fleshed out' backstory of Harvey is following the Michael Westen Formula of Badass. Take one dose of abusive father, add a dash of "I couldn't care less" mother and then, for a bit of variety, chuck some "Harvey used to wear his heart-on-his-sleeve-and-got-hurt-bad" and mix with a splash of 'uses money and possessions to get as far away from his childhood as possible'.
12. Never go to court. 20. Nice. Mine's more along the lines of: Harvey grew up in a small(ish) town (haven't decided if it's in New York, or if it was in another state) with a single mother. His dad either left them or died, haven't figured that out, and his mom could really only work minimum-wage jobs. She was also kind of crazy. He got taken away a few times, put into foster care for a while, where his guardians only cared about the money they were getting to take care of him. He was the kid in school that had the thrift-store clothes and only brought a PBJ for lunch every day, and couldn't always go on field trips 'cause his mom lost another job and didn't have the money for it. When he graduated high school he was going to go to the local college on a scholarship, but his mom got really sick, so he had to get a job and take care of her. He met a girl and fell in love (or at least what he thought was love) and she got pregnant and he was so happy and they were going to be married, until he found out she was cheating on him with her rich boss. So he ignored everyone but his mom. After she died is when he moved to NYC and got the job at PH and met Jessica.
