I've reached chapter six on the rough draft of my urban fantasy novel, but I can't say that last week was all that productive. My first attempt at chapter six was a 1,000 + words of crap, and by crap I mean an actionless scene filled with info-dumps and flashbacks. I was cringing even while writing it, so I had to sleep on the chapter and think about something that would move the story forward in a more exciting way without totally getting off track. Found my answer (sleeping on your problems can be SUCH a good thing) and produced a chapter six I was much happier with. However, that's as far as I got last week. It was a busy week at work, and then there was the Lost premiere, and frankly, the end of chapter six made me wonder just how I was going to get OUT of that twist without taking up way too much time in the book. My goal for this novel is 80K and/or 300 pages, so being concise is a GOOD THING. I know it's only the rough draft, but I'd rather not over-write on this one, because I know how verbose I can get, and I really don't feel like doing THAT much cutting the second time around.

Goals for this week are getting chapter seven out (which was worrying me, and I had to do a bit of research for it) and digging into the main thread of the book with chapter eight. We'll see what happens.
