A. Near the Church, Afternoon

[If you happen to be by the church today, you might spot a young, blonde haired boy looking at it from a short distance. It's hard to tell what he's doing at first; considering it looks like he's hiding behind a tree, he could easily be mistaken as a child possibly playing a game with a friend. But if you look closer ( Read more... )

[By which point he may notice someone walk up from behind him.]

Ah, it just finished... Looks like I got here a bit early. [If he didn't see before, he'd certainly hear her now. Whether she comes up next to him first or he turns around to look, the sight of a woman in nun's habit is unmistakable. Sounds like she was muttering to herself, as odd as what she's said may be, though what may be stranger is the fact that she apparently just showed up now, after service is over and casually commenting on it as if she hasn't missed anything big at all.

That is, before she blinks once and tilts her head a bit to address him, looking lively and curious.]

Really? How can you tell?

[He turns around casually at the sound of Ciel's voice, tilting his head slightly.]

Oh. I was talking to myself, about a person I used to know.

He would like things like this quite a bit.

[She raises her eyebrows in mild surprise.]

Really? Watching masses of soulless puppets shuffle about? Ah... Do they like robots, or maybe dolls?

He likes obedience. It's something He cares a great deal about.

Is your acquaintance an engineer? [wow that makes perfect sense, totally logical conclusion to draw to! but yeah with her hands resting on her hips this does vaguely look like an exaggerated motion of airiness.

Then again she's clearly religious so maybe that's why... :v]

[A small, childish laugh.]

You could say that He is, yes.

[She looks at him curiously, one hand now resting under her chin.] That may be why, the calculations have to be precise. Mathematics and Physics work with unarguable numbers, so it's only natural that the answers you get are neat and orderly. [nods to self, that must be it! Makes sense.]

[...]

But what does that really have to do with drone citizens coming out of service?

They are, in part. I wouldn't deny that, miss.

I'm not really sure. You were the one who brought it up.

I simply was seeing if I could get a count of how many drones were in the town by the amount of people in the Church.

Ah... I still don't think I really get it, it sounds like you have a strange acquaintance... [but moving on!]

Huh? Like that? Wouldn't it be easier to count the number of houses instead? [...] Though it's true that you would include conscious people in the tally too, in that case. Hm... I estimate it to be around [insert number here she's often loafing by the Church, so she'd actually have a good rough estimate! maybe... ...But still in the hundreds, so not a super accurate/precise one.] now. The numbers have been steadily rising with the passing of time, since replaced drones in households are moved to houses in other streets. The town seems to expand itself whenever it becomes necessary, so the count is always changing. Although if you really want to know, I could try counting for you next week?

I suppose it would, but as you said, unless I go door to door to check who inhabits what house, it could screw with the count. And I'd rather not be intrusive.

[Lucifer nods his head a little bit at the estimate.]

I see.

That's appreciated, miss, but I'd prefer to do it on my own. I'd rather not burden anyone else with my own wastes of time.

Hmm... maybe you could watch by the streets, like you were doing just now? [(thinking) that wouldn't be creepy at all...]

It's okay, I'm here rather often, so--

oh]

--! Then why weren't you inside, too? You could have gotten a good count like that, and with everyone sitting down, it would have also been much easier to do so, wouldn't it?

[Lucifer just shrugs and shakes his head.]

I simply dislike going inside churches.

[Which is true enough. His tendency not to deal with YHWH's symbolish and iconography was due more to distaste than anything. It had no power over him, no real ability to hurt him, let alone now.

Then again, he had never bothered to go into one to begin with...]

Ah... is it that bad? [That seems to quieten her, and she looks genuinely concerned.]

It is that bad. I feel nothing but pity for those who can only find solace there.

[And disgust. But the feelings are interchangeable, as far as Lucifer is concerned.]
