[Waking in a human bed, and in what was clearly a child's room, was among the list of things Lucifer least expected. The world he had least been in, as he had left it, had been torn apart. Had been painted over new as it changed from the world of man to a blank slate of sorts: the Vortex world. The idea that he should be in a household that was ( Read more... )

Yeah, this town is full of mistakes.

[So says the smelly man walking around with a blood covered knife.]

[Well. Aren't you an interesting fellow, Black Mage.]

The town itself appears to be one.

[He tilts his head a little, getting a better look at the knife.]

Have an accident? Are you hurt?

Yeah, a mistake that's gonna become a crater one of these days.

What? Oh, the knife? Sure, I had an accident. I had a dozen accidents. I kept tripping into this guy and the knife kept going in.

Totally an accident. All 12 or so times.

[Lucifer fights to keep his smile down. Some of the more brutal demons who pledged allegiance to Chaos were just as...upfront about their nature and destruction as Black Mage was. It was something oddly familiar, that he understood.]

How unfortunate.

Did he get any help?

Yeah, plenty. I think his throat was dry, couldn't make out what he was saying.

So I put him in the lake.

I'm sure he's all better now.

He certainly won't be able to complain in the morning.

Knowing this town, he will.

What did I do to deserve a place like this?

The dead generally don't talk back.

I don't know. What did you do?

No one stays dead here, you just come back the next morning.

Maybe... maybe I let someone go without realizing it. Maybe... maybe someone is smiling and it's my fault they are allowed to. I don't know.

[That's certainly nice information to have, although even Lucifer is a bit surprised by it. Death in a world usually meant complete destruction in that world, and even he couldn't re-enter if one of his incarnations was destroyed. And yet part of him? Quite likes the idea of death not being permanent. It adds a random factor to things.

You certainly like your evil, don't you BM? That's...getting slightly grating, hearing you go on about it. But he supposes it's inevitable.]

All make mistakes, at times.

Simply make up for the mistake then, in what you do next.

[That's the thing with BM, there is no real off button. Even death is just a pause from the stream of it.]

Yeah, you're right. I got all the time in the world to atone now.

Or, at least until we wreck this place.

Anyways, welcome to the big trap.

[A brief smirk. Lucifer is already all for demolishing the place, reverting the disgusting conformity it appears to embody to a state of nothingness, of primordial chaos as he had been doing before he was brought here.]

And does the trap have a name, or purpose other than annoying us?

Mayfield and damned if I know.

They play little games of brainwash and torture. Maybe it's an elder god's toy box. We are the play things, for now.

But only for now.

[He's pretty firm on that.]

Yeah, they are kind of stupid. They give us our powers back over time.

It's just so damn slow. But if that's the game then we'll play.

And then, fire.

As it always is.

Everything returns to as it should be, every 1 to 0.
