OK, so I log into AIM today at work and get a strange message telling me that I am logged in at two locations.
This doesn't surprise me since I ALWAYS leave my computer at home running AIM when I leave for work. The logic there is that when I log in at the office, AIM will kick out my session at home. Has worked up until now.
I'm guessing AIM has changed their servers to allow multiple logins... This bothers me for several reasons...
1) Security- If someone gets their hands on your password, they can actually "eavesdrop" on your AIM conversations with everyone. One of the "features" of this new capability is that all messages coming in are shown on all logged-in terminals.
2) Reliability- At work today I did an experiment and logged in on two computers. Not all messages came to both computers like they said they would. In fact, it almost seemed to randomly switch terminals.
3) Security Revisited- Before, if someone got their hands on your password and logged in as you... You could find out when you suddenly got kicked out for no reason. When that happens a few times it is a good sign of password compromise. Now they just log in and you don't know...
OK, done bitching about a free service for now...
