A quick Long Le-esque update on my jaunt through the good parts of Texas:
Thursday: Ate a wonderful lunch at El Fenix on Nikki's recommendation and forgot to take a photo ID of her for my new camera phone. Talked of Amanda, family, the rigors of dieting and plans for the future. She gave me brief directions on the "superior" route from Dallas to College Station, where I saw the glory of Mexia and Groesbeck before arriving for the much anticipated first date with Amanda ...
which went about as well as it could have. Pizza + Beer + rented movie == me contributing to the delinquency of a minor. good times.
Friday: A lunch with the grandparents at Pei Wei (excellent, though I think I still prefer Panda Express), after which my grandmother -- who is nothing if not stingy with compliments about the women I date -- raved about Amanda. Good sign, I hope.
Arrived at Blair and Ryan's in Austin to see the Spurs pull out a tough one over a Terry-less Mavericks team. Stack-HOUSE!
Saturday: After some quality people-watching at the Riverside location of Taco Cabana, Saturday was nothing but NBA 2k5 against Blair and basketball in the 300-degree heat at Hancock Park. Played against Mack Blake for the first time and acquitted myself well in between horrible decisions. Sweated Zeigenbock the entire time. Dinner at Player's (decent), hang out + a tecate at Baxter's (scary) and more video games (triumphant).
Oh, also, an anecdote that MUST be preserved for all time:
Driving back from playing ball at Hancock, Blair stopped at a light south of Airport on the 35 access road.
"Nice Z-71, with a mattress in the back," he said. Ryan and I looked over to note that, indeed, there was a Camaro that clearly was transporting a MATTRESS in the back seat.
The driver, as if spurred on my Blair's derision, takes off and executes a left turn and leaves behind his ENTIRE FRONT LEFT WHEEL.
I guess you had to be there, but I haven't laughed that hard in months.
