1 ;; talk of the devil, and his horns appear

[Having been skulking around like the creep he is, Advocat's gleaned more than enough information about this place to get by. And, yes, plenty of it has made even him a little worried; a strange town with strange powers that lives and breathes by strange rules, not to mention being stripped of his devil magic and reduced to a lowly human? Fate can ( Read more... )

As far as I can tell, you're exactly right.

[SHAKES THE DRONE ONCE, will the soul fall out??? And then he just....drops them, wiping his hands.]

It certainly seems so. What a most dreadful waste....

Nothing's happening in here, either.

[At least, not that she can see...

She taps her head with her index finger.]

You're better off ignoring them.

Possibly, possibly. I still find it very interesting how they can function at all without souls.

If souls can function without bodies, who's to say bodies can't function without souls?

"Function beyond the bare necessity of breathing and other such basic instincts", I should clarify.

That doesn't answer the question, especially considering souls can function beyond the bare necessities. You just have to pay more attention. So I ask you again: who's to say a body can't be the same?

There are cases, I hear, of corpses coming back to life. I've never witnessed it personally, but I wouldn't be surprised. Just because one has lost their soul, or their body, doesn't make them dead, after all.

Perhaps in your world, but not in mine. In my very happy experience, souls are merely the essence of emotion and identity and have only the most primal awareness of their surroundings. Without a vessel, they're unable to speak or think, and are really quite helpless for the most part.

Now, when did I ever mention death? These "drones", as they seem to be called, are clearly alive.....just not in the same way that you or I are.

I was using death as an example because it's something I'm a bit of an expert in. My point is that it's entirely possible for the body to function without a soul and vice-versa, so you really shouldn't be so surprised.

You'll find soon enough that how the drones work is the least of your troubles.

I would not have pegged you for a murderer, if that's what you're implying.

Back to semantics again, are we? Have it your way. The only reason this has any importance is because I can't persuade someone to give up something they don't have.

No, I'm the one who oversees the disposals.

[She'll just leave it at that. trololololo]

Don't be too disappointed. I'm sure if they had souls, they'd be just as lackluster as everything else about them. They don't react, they don't care how many times you kill them, they taste awful, and their attitude is sickening.

But do you enjoy your job, is the real question. [entirely unfazed]

True, but a soul is a soul and thus something desirable to a devil, regardless of how rustic, uncouth, or "lackluster" it is.

I've been doing it so long I don't have any feelings about it anymore. As long as it gets done, I'm satisfied.

I can understand that. My job actually puts me in a similar position. Even if all that's left is an arm, it's good enough to be burned.

Indifference is fine, too.

Where exactly do you live? Or did you, rather.
