Things I hate about my Job...

You want to know what's the number one thing I hate about my job? It's not people trying to convert me...it's not dealing with officers all the time, and it's not having to do just about everything myself because we're an office of two, and the other person is an officer. That's fine. It's my job to get things done, I have no problem with that...

My biggest hate about this job is ~knowing~. Knowing things about people that I'd rather not know. Yeah, i ignore it most of the time, but after a while it all accumilates, and you stop seeing people as who they are, but instead see them as what their problems are. If I was a shrink, and it was my job, then sure, it'd be easier to look at someone as a client with a problem...but these are the people I work with, play with and deploy with.

Sometiems I wish I could look at someone and not be reminded that he's going through an ugly divorce and his wife is getting custody of his kids...

But then...

But then i smile and ask them how they're doing. If they've heard any word or if things have changed or if their *insert loved one here* is doing any better. And for that moment, they appreciate there being someone who's willing to listen for a moment...who's willing to care about them and their problems. And the appreciation washes over me like a wave, cleansing my plate for the next person who needs someone to reach out to them...

So I hate the fact that I know the bad things that happen to people...

But I love being there, knowing that their life is a bit better just for having someone to talk to for a moment...
